Chapter 483: Become my student
The tall man's appearance left Karp puzzled.
Why was Annie Belle's dad dressed like that? What exactly had Annie asked me out tonight for?
Whatever it was, it probably wasn't what Karp had mistakenly imagined earlier. The mission Annie said her father was carrying out seemed highly suspicious, too, making Karp wonder whether he should send his family a message just to be safe.
Naturally, Annie's father paid no attention to whether Karp was on his guard. After greeting him, he said nothing more, simply turned, and strode off in a particular direction.
In the few seconds Karp stood there dumbfounded, the man had already gone a long way.
"Hey, what are you standing there for? We need to catch up!"
Annie grabbed Karp's hand and pulled him along after her father.
The grip of her soft yet strong hand left Karp dizzy. Any thought of notifying his family went straight out of his head. He hurried along with Annie, afraid she would let go if he fell behind.
The three of them moved along like that, one ahead and two behind. If most of the people approaching them hadn't stepped aside on their own, Karp would have thought everyone around them was ignoring them.
Stranger still, although Karp and Annie weren't sprinting flat out, they were definitely running. Yet the man ahead stayed a dozen or so meters away, no matter how hard they tried to catch him. And he seemed to be doing nothing more than strolling casually.
After running for over ten minutes, Karp was gasping for breath. Annie was panting too, but she was certainly holding up far better than he was.
Their run had brought them to a residential neighborhood.
