Chapter 509: A choice
The inn near the south gate had always done good business. Dozens of people were eating in the main hall, though most were simply enjoying the spectacle.
After all, someone who could eat that much was a rare sight. But that was all there was to it: a man with a certain air about him had been treated to a meal. As for the quiet words he spoke at the entrance before leaving, even the few people by the door had barely caught them.
By the time the traveler finished eating, the hall was buzzing with conversation, so Leit naturally hadn't heard those words either. Still, the Holy Knight knew the man had said something.
The three adventurers paid their bill, hurriedly gathered their belongings, and rushed out of the inn, intending to follow the mysterious traveler at once.
They practically jogged to the entrance, then pulled open the inn's door.
The midday sunlight was dazzling enough to make all three squint. They looked around, but there was no sign of the mysterious traveler.
"What happened? We came out right after him..."
"Surely he couldn't have vanished in the time it took us to pay?"
They were near the south gate, where the broad road usually carried a steady stream of pedestrians and carriages. But it was noon, right at mealtime, so there was relatively little traffic. It shouldn't have kept the three adventurers from spotting such a distinctive pedestrian.
"Come on, let's go to the Clock Tower!"
This only heightened their anticipation. Without pausing, the three headed straight toward the Clock Tower.
