Chapter 578: Deployment
Standing in the decontamination room, the researcher peeled off his protective suit while auxiliary mechanical arms helped him remove a pair of bloodstained protective metal arms. Machinery still could not be trusted with certain extremely delicate tasks; those required an expert's own hands.
Elsewhere, demon blood had seeped across the operating table. The density of the demons' bodies prevented the imaging equipment from producing sufficiently detailed scans, so one particularly unfortunate lesser demon had been dissected alive, with shallow scans guiding the incision deeper, bit by bit.
Layer by layer, inch by inch, with human hands working at close range, they avoided every major blood vessel they discovered and traced every sheet and strand of muscle fiber. Skin, keratin, muscle tissue, viscera, all the major internal and external organs, bones, reproductive structures-all were taken apart...
Unlike the earlier work on the Thunder Beast, for which the laboratory already had some data, this was basic, purely biological dissection. Beyond techniques such as genetic analysis, they sought a direct, meticulous physical understanding of every last detail of a demon's internal anatomy.
This dealt a tremendous psychological blow to the few demons nearby who were still conscious, as well as the Thunder Beast watching the live video feed. It became especially horrifying toward the end, when there was little bleeding, yet the skeleton and organs, stripped of most of their flesh, still lay there breathing in an unconscious stupor.
A strip of muscle over three meters long was stretched out inside a transparent tank filled with liquid. Mechanical manipulators secured every end of the muscle and stimulated this living tissue with different electrical signals.
The computer beside it recorded images of the entire dissection. Software also reconstructed each detail of the muscle tissue and organs into a complete three-dimensional model
