Chapter 625: A lion's roar in a land of chaos
Boom...
As though the blast had been delayed, the ground bulged before the energy finally tore it apart. Blazing flames rose with great quantities of dirt, shattered stone, and fragments from underground.
Anything below ground was almost certain to die under an attack of this magnitude in an enclosed space. At the very least, the things described in the intelligence reports would have had little chance of surviving.
Modern warfare, however, also understood the importance of finishing the job. Fighter jets circled repeatedly several hundred meters above, while tracked military vehicles and infantry search teams approached from afar. Helicopters arrived even sooner.
Even knowing that large numbers of human cultists were underground, and that many of them were ordinary people, the U.S. Military had still chosen to attack directly.

Even if rescued, they would eventually have faced trial. Those underground had merely faced judgment a little earlier, with a somewhat harsher sentence.
A helicopter hovered above the forest, the downdraft from its rotors making the trees sway.
A colonel in a green beret and sunglasses with a reflective silver-gray coating observed the funnel-shaped blast crater below through the scope of a specially modified sniper rifle.
"Choosing between the lives of our soldiers and those people is pretty simple."
The colonel muttered to himself as he chewed gum. Through his scope, the intense heat in the distance had yet to dissipate. Although the human military knew
