A smile appeared on Liu Yu's face as he looked at the little fellow in his palm and spoke softly.
After speaking, he stroked its body. It felt slippery and smooth, icy cool, and a little sticky.
Snakes were cold-blooded creatures, so the coolness was nothing unusual. The stickiness came from the fluid from the spirit beast egg still coating its body.
"Hiss, hiss."
Seemingly understanding Liu Yu's words, Little Green flicked its forked tongue and hissed.
It also rubbed its head against his outstretched hand, conveying joy and affection.
"Heh, heh."
"All right, off you go, Little Green."
Liu Yu chuckled softly, teasing it with a finger for a while before speaking.
Then he bent down and placed it on the ground.
"Hiss, hiss."
After landing, Little Green nodded its head in an almost human gesture, then wriggled toward the broken shell of the egg from which it had hatched.
Crack.
It first picked up a smaller piece of shell in its mouth, chewed it a couple of times, then swallowed it.
After eating several small pieces, Little Green seemed to find them especially delicious and began feasting with gusto.
It opened its jaws almost a full hundred and eighty degrees, swallowed a piece of shell only slightly smaller than its head, then slowly chewed it up.
For a while, the sound of crunching filled the Spirit Beast Room.
Unlike other snakes, Netherworld Spirit Snakes had other teeth besides their venomous fangs, allowing them to chew food with ease.
Spirit beast eggshells contained plenty of nutrients and could be digested easily even by newborn beasts, so many Demon Beasts and wild animals ate their shells after hatching.
Its intelligence seems far greater than that of an ordinary Demon Beast.
