Background

Lu Changsheng grew up in Changping County, a dangerous Great Zhou frontier county plagued by bandits and evil cults. Fang Tao carried him home after he was badly injured, and the Fang siblings’ family had longstanding ties with his own. 1

He began martial training while poor and undernourished, choosing the punishing Iron Cloth Shirt. Fang Tao helped temper his body with a wooden staff, while Fang Qing provided food and money despite her own family’s hardship. Lu quickly learned that food, silver, medicinal herbs, and martial manuals were as vital to cultivation as perseverance. 3 6

His early objective was vengeance against Zhao Erhu, the Three Rivers Gang leader connected to the attack on his family. Rather than act immediately, Lu cultivated, gathered intelligence, and waited until he could strike without exposing himself to the gang’s stronger figures. 6 9

At the beginning of the story, Lu is described as a thin, undernourished youth in coarse hemp clothing with a sickly pallor, though his eyes remain notably bright and alert. 1 As his cultivation and status rise, he is seen in Demon Suppression Department uniforms, official robes, and later flowing white garments that emphasize his composed bearing. 25 31 172

After growing strong enough to act openly, he kills Huang Tianba and places Yue Wanting in control of the Three Rivers Gang, ending the organization’s direct threat to him. 115

War Against the Scent Worship Cult

Lu becomes a leading Demon Suppressor during Changping County’s conflict with the Scent Worship Cult. Operating under disguises such as Ye Chen, he ambushes cult operatives, kills Ghost Soul Emissaries, protects towns, and keeps his real strength hidden even from many allies. 72 85 91 122

Qingning Prefecture and Great Zhou

After defeating a Pseudo-Xiantian enemy and purging local threats, Lu is promoted directly to prefectural Deputy Hall Master. His rise is resisted by aristocratic families and major sects, but he eventually destroys the Six Great Sects and the Heavenly Demon Sect’s Qingning forces. 140 180
