There was no question that Itachi was talented. Otherwise, he would not have been called Itachi God by so many Naruto fans. Not only was he intelligent, but in certain aspects, he far surpassed others. To say nothing else, even a simple Great Fireball Technique or a basic genjutsu could become something extraordinary in his hands.

The reason Itachi was somewhat awkward was similar to Kakashi Hatake's situation.

Kakashi Hatake was fifty-fifty against anyone. He could fight fiercely against weaker opponents, and he could also go back and forth with powerful enemies. That fifty-fifty nickname was not made up out of thin air. Of course, those who liked him preferred to call him Lord Kakashi!!!

Uchiha Itachi... The main reason some people called him Awkward Itachi was that he utterly crushed anyone weaker than himself. He often did not even need to do much; his powerful genjutsu alone could control his opponent. He was overwhelmingly strong. But whenever he encountered someone stronger than himself, his position became rather awkward.

Everyone had characters they liked and characters they disliked. Although Uchiha Itachi was indeed very popular in Naruto, there were still people who did not like him. Naturally, those people felt that Itachi was the awkward type.

The biggest reason he was given the title Awkward Itachi was that when he and Kisame Hoshigaki faced Jiraiya, they could only flee. Earlier, they had displayed their might in Konoha and fought Kakashi Hatake's group with tremendous ferocity, but the moment their opponent became Jiraiya, they immediately wilted.

The contrast was simply enormous!!!
