Background / History
Prince Jin proposed a tax increase in court, which Duke Zhen Guo Li Qing Shan opposed. Three days later, the Li family was falsely accused of treason and imprisoned; Prince Jin’s Shadow Guard had infiltrated the Ministry of Justice Prison to monitor and eliminate Li Chen Zhou. 1
After Li Chen Zhou escaped, Prince Jin used assassins from the Net of Heaven and Earth to attempt to seize him alive, apparently intending to solidify the accusation against the Li family. He later dispatched a Heaven-ranked Net assassin from his estate to kill Li Chen Zhou. 3 4
With Duke Zhen’s Estate nearing exoneration, Prince Jin accelerated his plans and launched a palace rebellion. Nearly a third of the imperial guards defected, allowing his forces to reach Tai Xuan Hall. 6 7
In the throne room, Prince Jin confronted the Emperor, demanded the throne, and ordered his followers to attack. The Emperor revealed that Duke Zhen Guo had remained loyal, leaving Prince Jin’s uprising trapped by the imperial counterplan. 7
Prince Jin continued fighting after Li Chen Zhou infiltrated his ranks and ambushed him. Li Chen Zhou and Liu Xian broke through the rebel forces, defeated Prince Jin, and captured him, ending the rebellion. 8
Personality
Prince Jin is intensely ambitious and views the throne as something wrongfully denied to him. He rejects the Emperor’s claim that he is unsuited to rule and insists he would govern better if given the opportunity. 7
His ambition is coupled with ruthlessness. The Emperor accuses him of cultivating court officials through protection of their crimes, sheltering evil martial artists, and conspiring against the country in pursuit of power. Even after his defeat, Prince Jin refuses remorse and blames the Li family for preventing his victory. 7 10
