Hai Pao Battles the Robbers
"Because so many people had been heading into the Great Forest in recent years, some Bad Guys had set their sights on those travelers.
After gathering a group of people, they hid in the bushes on both sides of the road. Whenever a lone traveler passed by, they would leap out, kill them, and rob them of their valuables.
It was Hai Pao's first time leaving the village, and he knew nothing of the dangers of the outside world, so he had not traveled with anyone else.
Sure enough, on the afternoon of his second day after leaving the village, he was stopped by a group of Robbers.
Hand over all your valuables, Kid. If we're in a good mood, we might let you live.
Facing the seven Robbers, Hai Pao, all alone, decided that a wise man knew when to yield and handed over the little money he had.
That's all you've got? What rotten luck, running into a Poor Ghost!
Hand over that Niffler too, and you can get lost.
To Hai Pao, Pippi was family. He would rather die than hand Pippi over!
Because Hai Pao had cooperated earlier, the Robbers had let down their guard around him.
Hai Pao spotted an opportunity. He secretly pulled out his Wand and cast the 'Mist Charm,' blocking the Robbers' vision.
The Robbers had not expected Hai Pao to resist, and they panicked a little. But they were professionals, after all, and quickly calmed down.
At that moment, a red beam shot out from the mist. It was a 'Disarming Charm.'
One Robber was struck by the spell and lost his Wand.
Without Wandless Magic, once a wizard lost his Wand, he also lost the ability to resist.
The Robber Leader shouted orders, commanding the remaining Robbers to gather together and cast the 'Shield Charm' at the same time to guard against a sneak attack. Then they used Magic Perception to locate Hai Pao.
Having heard the Robber Leader's command as well, Hai Pao immediately mixed a large amount of magic power into the mist.
That way, Magic Perception would have a hard time finding him.
Then Hai Pao consecutively used nonlethal Curses such as the 'Stunning Spell' and the 'Petrification Curse' to attack the Robbers.
Kind-hearted Hai Pao still could not bring himself to use lethal Curses against others.
Hai Pao's Curses were easily blocked by the Shield Charm.
After discovering that Magic Perception could not lock onto Hai Pao's location, the Robbers finally thought of the Magical Animals they kept—the Di Luo Hounds.
Di Luo Hounds were a kind of large canine. They had vicious temperaments and strong Physical Bodies.
But Di Luo Hounds also had a weakness: poor magical resistance.
Many wizards looked down on them because of this, and those wizards often paid the price.
Because Di Luo Hounds were extremely fast, targeted spells found it difficult to hit them.
Therefore, to defeat Di Luo Hounds, one either had to use large-scale Curses or use Transfiguration to limit their speed before attacking them."
Tonight's story was about Hai Pao's great battle with the Robbers.
Bell then went into detail about how Hai Pao had outwitted and fought the Robbers. While at an absolute disadvantage, he chose different Curses for different predicaments and ultimately defeated the Robbers with Pippi's help.
He also explained how, after being seriously injured in battle and unable to afford healing Potions, Hai Pao treated his wounds, identified different Herbs, and brewed Potions.
In short, while keeping the story interesting, Bell mixed in every bit of knowledge he could think of, hoping that Shanna could learn all kinds of magical knowledge while happily listening to the story.
At the same time, because Hai Pao was kind at heart, he ultimately did not kill those Robbers. Bell had even arranged further roles for them.
They would appear before Hai Pao again at a critical moment.
But of course, they would not be coming to repay his kindness. Reality would not have such a ridiculous development.
Naturally, the Robbers would come for revenge. Because of his former naivety, Hai Pao would lose his good friend, and even Pippi would nearly die.
After this experience, Hai Pao would completely cast aside his naivety.
Bell intended to use this to warn Shanna that when facing enemies in the future, she absolutely could not be softhearted. She had to develop the good habit of finishing them off.
After all, holding back was something only villain bosses did. As a partner of justice, how could Shanna not finish them off?
For Shanna's education, Bell had truly worried himself sick. He planned to keep telling the story of the 'Wizard King' until Shanna had mastered every piece of knowledge he considered valuable.
Or until Shanna no longer wanted to listen.
After all, his little sister's happiness was what mattered most!
"Gege, Gege, look!"
Shanna shoved open the door and rushed into Bell's room.
She placed a Glass Cup on the table, then took out her Wand.
"Diffindo!"
The cup shattered into several pieces.
"Shanna, you're amazing!"
Bell stroked Shanna's head and praised her.
Shanna was already six years old. Three days earlier, on Shanna's birthday, after receiving Bell's approval, the family had gone to Diagon Alley to Buy Wand for Shanna.
Ollivander had been extremely surprised by this.
He had not expected the Menethil family, after buying a Wand for their five-year-old Son, to come back to buy one for their six-year-old Daughter as well.
Ollivander did his best to dissuade Mr. and Mrs. Menethil, but because they insisted, he ultimately selected a Wand for Little Shanna.
Shanna's Wand was eleven inches long, made of Vine Wood and Dragon Heartstring. It was just as powerful, but gentler than Bell's Wand.
After receiving her first Wand, Little Shanna had been incredibly excited these past few days. She wanted to blast everything she saw with Curses.
As a result, her training had been remarkably effective. In just three days, the destructive power of Shanna's Curses had clearly increased considerably.
At first, she could only make a few cracks appear in a Glass Cup. Now, Shanna could directly slice the cup apart.
As Shanna grew older, Bell no longer stayed by her side all the time like he used to.
He believed his sister needed more time and space of her own.
And Shanna indeed no longer clung to Bell every moment as she had before.
She had gone from sticking to Bell's side for twenty-four hours a day to only twenty hours now. Her time with him had greatly decreased!
Watching Shanna gradually grow up, Bell could not help shedding tears, unsure whether they were tears of joy or sorrow.
"Gege, what book are you reading?"
Little Shanna looked at the magic book in her Gege's hands and realized she could not understand the words on its pages.
How strange. She had already read many magic books, and she rarely came across words she did not recognize anymore.
But in the book Gege held, Little Shanna did not recognize a single word.
"This is a magic book explaining Ancient Runes."
Bell showed Shanna the book in his hands.
"Ancient Runes? What are those?"
It was Little Shanna's first time hearing the term.
"Ancient Runes were the writing used by ancient wizards. The writing itself contained magic power, so it was used in many places.
But precisely because it contained magic power and was too complicated to write, it was gradually replaced by modern English."
"Oh~ Gege, I want to learn too!"
Little Shanna was interested in everything her Gege learned.
She believed that if she learned every kind of magic Gege had mastered too, she could become closer to him!
"This is still too early for Shanna. Right now, Shanna should first master the basic Curses and Transfiguration. Once she has built a solid foundation, she can start learning this advanced knowledge."
"Mm... okay..."
Little Shanna agreed somewhat unhappily.
