Authority and Succession
- The Human King is humanity's universally revered co-lord, authorized to command both the Visible and Hidden Veins, mobilize Grand Elders, decide human affairs, and convene clan assemblies. The title is explicitly honorary, while its authority is constitutional. 146
- The Human King governs the mortal realm; the Heavenly Emperor is barred from intervening in mortal affairs, while heavenly gods and Buddhas may not establish temples, sacrifices, or faith there. 1
- The Ancestral Pavilion stands above the Human King. It is an independent body of human ancestors with the authority to restrain and depose the ruler. 146
- A claimant must win humanity's recognition rather than seize the office through strength. Gathering more than half of Humanity's Destiny is the principal measure of qualification. 211 233
- If at least half of humanity's Grand Elders agree, the Human Ancestral Pavilion may remove a Human King and replace them. 330
- Human Kings may succeed through a handover by their predecessor, but the clan's recognition remains decisive; Xuanyuan, for example, was elected by a Human Clan Assembly. 206 213
Humanity's Destiny
Protection
Humanity's Destiny converges upon the Human King, making the office-holder exceptionally difficult to harm. Its strength is derived from humanity's collective belief, unity, population, cultivation, and recognition of the Human King. 112 382
- It repels spells and divine abilities; even Saints cannot directly harm a Human King protected by sufficient Humanity's Destiny. 112 145 272
- Its power is fundamentally defensive. Though its level can surpass that of Heavenly Dao Saints, it protects its bearer rather than serving as direct offensive power. 199
- The Destiny's passive pressure can suppress nearby cultivators. Di Xin's anger rendered 99.9% of Jiang Haofeng's mana inert despite Jiang Haofeng being a peak Quasi-Saint. 327
- A ruler's connection to Humanity's Destiny can weaken if humanity's recognition is withdrawn, as occurred when Di Xin lost the Destiny that had protected him. 376 381
- The office-holder may learn of affairs across the Three Realms if they choose to seek such knowledge. 328
Kongtong Seal
The Kongtong Seal is humanity's supreme, destiny-bound treasure and the symbol of the Human King's authority. It manifested after Fuxi's enthronement and the unification of Humanity's Destiny. 162
- The seal draws power from Humanity's Destiny and can remain potent as long as humanity endures. 162
- Human King Qi used the Kongtong Seal during the Xia Dynasty's enfeoffment of vassals, where it visibly represented royal authority. 293
- The seal remains within humanity's possession, allowing the clan's institutions to retain a means of addressing an unfit ruler. 288
Restrictions
- During the era of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, Human Kings were cultivators; even the weakest held Grand Unity Golden Immortal cultivation. 320
- After that era, Heavenly Rules prohibited Human Kings from cultivating. Later kings became mortal, could not achieve immortality, and commonly held short reigns despite being protected by Destiny. 286 320 330
- Thirty-six Human Immortals from the academies oversee the mortal realm and can advise a Human King on wider human and Three Realms affairs. 328
- A Human King cannot retain the office solely through personal force. Chi You's attempt to claim the title based on his Grand Luo Golden Immortal cultivation was rejected because the position belongs to humanity's will. 232 233
History
Humanity originally lacked a unified Human King, leaving its tribes scattered and its Destiny dispersed. Jiang Haofeng regarded the later replacement of Human Kings by Sons of Heaven as a major failure of humanity's historical development and sought to preserve the title as humanity's true supreme office. 2 52 146
Fuxi's birth caused Humanity's Destiny to surge and begin converging. Jiang Haofeng recognized him as humanity's first Human King and prepared to safeguard both Fuxi and the office's future system. 113 115 When Fuxi unified Humanity's Destiny, he proposed a third tribal rule empowering the Ancestral Pavilion to depose the Human Co-Lord; Jiang Haofeng refined this into the formal Human King system. 146
Fuxi formally ascended in Taihao City before humanity's clans and the major powers of the Three Realms. His enthronement demonstrated the Saint-level might of concentrated Humanity's Destiny and established the office as the center of humanity's political order. 160 163
Following Fuxi's eventual departure for Fire Cloud Cave, the office passed through successive rulers while the Human Sovereigns preserved Humanity's Destiny. The title later became tied to mortal dynasties, beginning with Qi's Xia Dynasty, but humanity's immortals and the Ancestral Pavilion continued to safeguard the broader race. 181 292 293
During the Investiture of the Gods period, Di Xin held the office but became corrupted by Calamity Qi. Humanity ultimately withdrew its Destiny from him, rejected his unilateral claim to be Co-Lord of Humanity, and installed Suiren as the ninth Human King. 327 376 381
