Awakening and Manifestation

Martial Souls awaken during a Spirit Awakening ceremony and are assessed alongside the bearer’s Innate Soul Power. A child may awaken a Martial Soul yet possess no Soul Power, preventing cultivation as a Soul Master. 2 3 456

• A Martial Soul may resemble a parent’s inherited Martial Soul, but mutations, regressions, and unusual awakenings can alter its form or quality. 2 3 118
• Beast Martial Souls generally manifest through Martial Soul Possession, merging their traits with the user’s body. 19
• Item and Plant Martial Souls manifest separately for the user to wield rather than possessing the user directly. 19 386
• Some Martial Souls are External Martial Souls, able to act independently outside their owner’s body. Little White, Zhu Wu’s Martial Soul, can move on its own and retain innate Soul Beast-like talents. 4

Classification

The common Beast Martial Soul/Item Martial Soul divide is considered overly broad by Zhu Wu, who proposes more specific categories based on a Martial Soul’s nature. 117

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Masters normally require Soul Rings to pass major cultivation bottlenecks. They can continue accumulating Soul Power without a new ring, but that growth cannot be fully manifested until the next breakthrough. 381

• A Soul Ring retains energy from the Soul Beast that produced it; that energy powers Soul Skills and can enhance the Soul Master’s body. 29
• Absorbing a ring is partly a process of inheriting the Soul Beast’s traits. Strength-type beasts favor strength, while agility-type beasts favor agility. 382
• The age of a Soul Ring and the bearer’s physical and spiritual strength determine whether absorption is safe. Ten-thousand-year rings carry lingering resentment capable of attacking the absorber’s mind. 117
• Soul Ring selection should reinforce a Martial Soul’s inherent characteristics. Poor compatibility can weaken inherited traits, cause an unfocused development path, or alter the Martial Soul’s evolution. 382
• At the seventh Soul Ring, a Martial Soul gains Martial Soul Avatar. This stage can strongly influence the Martial Soul’s future evolutionary direction. 271 275

External Martial Soul Ring Inheritance

Little White demonstrates an atypical method of gaining Soul Skills. Rather than granting Zhu Wu a skill directly, a Soul Ring allows the External Martial Soul to transform into the absorbed Soul Beast and inherit that creature’s abilities permanently. 19 20

• Zhu Wu can access the inherited abilities while undergoing Martial Soul Possession in Little White’s corresponding beast form. 19
• Little White fighting independently does not grant Zhu Wu access to that form’s inherited skills. 19
• After Zhu Wu obtains his Martial Soul Avatar, he no longer needs to transform into a specific beast form to use certain inherited abilities. 262

Mutation and Evolution

A Martial Soul can mutate beneficially, regress, or follow an altered evolutionary path due to the bearer’s body, bloodline, and absorbed Soul Rings. 4 118 275

• Zhu Wu attributes his initial silkworm-like Martial Soul to an incomplete atavistic awakening connected to a trace of Dragon God bloodline. 4
• Yu Xiaogang’s Luo San Pao is identified as a regressed Golden Sacred Dragon Martial Soul; its regression is linked to his congenitally weak body. 118
• A Martial Soul may be evolved by supplying compatible attributes, medicinal herbs, Soul Beast resources, or origin energy. 118 383 389
• High-quality Soul Rings exert a stronger assimilative influence. A Martial Soul whose bloodline has not fully awakened may be unable to resist the influence of rings above fifty thousand years. 275
• Once a Martial Soul Avatar establishes a new evolutionary direction, restoring its original path becomes substantially more difficult. 271 275

Martial Soul Fusion Skills

Compatible Martial Souls can resonate and combine into a Martial Soul Fusion Skill. 117 411

• Yu Xiaogang, Flender, and Liu Erlong’s Martial Souls can fuse into the Golden Sacred Dragon, revealing Luo San Pao’s original dragon form when its missing aspect is restored through the fusion. 411
• Fusion Skills can reveal or supplement traits absent from an individual Martial Soul’s incomplete form. 411
