Background / History

Mei attended Senba Academy as a child, where Chang Yuan found her studying Introduction to Mastery of Physics in the library. While her peers read extracurricular material, Mei was already independently previewing university-level coursework; Chang Yuan identified her as the future “Demon Scientist” and a potential cornerstone of humanity’s fight against Honkai. 8

During the Pre-Civilization era, Mei and Kevin were brought to Flame-Chasing Moth amid the Honkai crisis. Although Kevin was visibly anxious about the unknown organization, Mei remained composed, questioned Chang Yuan about his knowledge, and agreed to join the organization after hearing his explanation of Honkai. She insisted that Kevin be allowed to join alongside her, then received assets, factories, and research authority equal to Mebius and other senior researchers. 42

Under Chang Yuan’s guidance, Mei shifted her work toward Stigmata research. She developed ordinary combat Stigmata, investigated more powerful Stigmata derived from Airi’s gene fragments, and worked with Mebius to create a specialized Stigmata for Airi. 57 90 101

Mei later identified herself as the creator of the Stigmata Project, a failsafe devised because the Pre-Civilization saw no viable path to defeat Finality directly. She maintained that the project would not be cancelled unless the current civilization could prove its determination by defeating Kevin. 244

Personality

Mei is notably rational and composed. While Kevin panicked after their sudden arrival at Flame-Chasing Moth, she remained calm enough to reprimand him for pacing and to focus on understanding their circumstances. 42

Her decisions are guided by both scientific pragmatism and personal attachment. She immediately accepted the responsibility of researching countermeasures against Honkai, yet opposed Kevin taking the Fusion Warrior procedure because of its fatal risks and possible loss of human traits. 42 49 58

As the architect of the Stigmata Project, Mei is willing to contemplate severe contingency measures for humanity’s survival. However, she acknowledges that the current civilization must ultimately determine its own future rather than simply inherit the Pre-Civilization’s judgment. 244
