Background / History
A kilometer-tall giant corpse Buddha sits at the edge of Ci Shi, exhaling Buddha energy through its pores in tornado-like streams. Its stomach contains the Buddha among Buddhas: a dim internal town inhabited by tens of thousands of emaciated monks, whose Indestructible Golden Bodies function as containers for the Great Compassionate Maitreya Bodhisattva’s Buddha energy 395.
Ren Qing is swallowed by the Buddha and initially risks being expelled when its housed Buddha energy identifies him as a corpse-like anomaly. By using the Buddhist Dream Flower and altering his body to resemble a corpse Buddha, he reduces the entity’s rejection and remains within its body 396. He then decides to refine the giant corpse Buddha, establishes Jailer Hall personnel in its stomach, and uses its interior as a defensible base 397.
Ren Qing cultivates the vessel with the Maitreya Worm Buddhist Scripture, mixing Buddhist Nether Essence into its body until the Nether Essence liquefies and replaces its blood. He later enhances its vision with a Double-Pupil, raises its organs to the Half-Corpse Realm, and attempts to gain control over its main brain 416 420 421 439.
After becoming the Physical Tathagata, it evolves into the vast Spiritual Mountain. Ren Qing directs it into Jingzhou’s deep world, where it devours and incorporates Insect Buddhas, spreads its own Buddha energy, and becomes a dominant force in Lesser Buddha Heaven 565 568 570. Its growth eventually allows Ren Qing to establish Spirit Mountain as a fortified Jailer Hall stronghold 573.
Appearance
The Buddha’s appearance changes repeatedly as Ren Qing refines and feeds it.
- Initially a kilometer-tall corpse Buddha seated cross-legged at Ci Shi’s border. Its pores emit Buddha energy in the form of enormous tornadoes 395.
- Its stomach contains an enclosed settlement and a forest of Indestructible Golden Body Buddha statues 395.
- As the Physical Tathagata, it grows to nearly five thousand meters and resembles a mountain of glazed porcelain covered in translucent vegetation 573.
- Its surface develops numerous Buddha statues as it absorbs Insect Buddha energy; later accounts describe hundreds of statues emerging across its body 573 617.
- It can become a towering, mutated mass while parasitizing other Buddhas, leading observers to regard it as more terrifying than a conventional Buddha 569 570.
Abilities & Skills
Buddha Energy Vessel
The Buddha contains and emits vast quantities of Buddha energy, originally associated with the Great Compassionate Maitreya Bodhisattva.
- Houses Buddha energy within the Indestructible Golden Bodies of monks inside its stomach 395.
- Its internal Buddha energy acts instinctively, especially against Heavenly Demon aura, rather than through conscious judgment 396.
- Its energy can alter nearby beings into bronze-skinned, metal-boned forms resembling corpse Buddhas 570.
- The Buddha energy can sustain believers and monks, but prolonged separation from the Physical Tathagata causes their stored energy to dissipate 573.
Internal Realm and Living Vessel
Its body contains an inhabited inner realm known as the Buddha among Buddhas.
- The stomach holds a town of monks, Buddha statues, and reincarnation-based labor systems 395.
- Ren Qing and the Jailer Hall establish a presence within this inner realm and use it as a protected operational base 397.
- Ren Qing develops waterways and sand-boat transportation routes inside the Buddha for rapid internal travel 421.
- Its monks eventually revere Ren Qing and selected Jailer Hall cultivators as Buddhas and Arhats 397.
Absorption and Conversion
As the Physical Tathagata, it consumes other Buddhas and assimilates their Buddha energy.
- It parasitizes Insect Buddhas, gradually absorbs their Buddha energy, and incorporates their features into its own form 568 570.
- It consumes the Many-Tongued Buddha, Palm Buddha, and Feathered Buddha during its expansion around Golden Gate Temple 570.
- Converted Insect Buddhas may appear outwardly normal and even gain cultivation, but their dispositions become subordinate to the Physical Tathagata 573.
- Its absorption of Buddha energy gives it chaotic residual memories and enables it to brainwash prolonged contacts 570.
Buddha Kingdom in Palm
After reaching a massive size, the Physical Tathagata awakens the divine ability Buddha Kingdom in Palm.
- Allows cultivators from Ren Qing’s world within the stomach to possess Buddha statues on its body through Dharma Form Manifestation 573.
- Pseudo Buddha statues can host cultivators and allow Ghost Envoy Realm users to wield Yang God Realm strength 573.
- Arhat statues can accommodate Heavenly Eerie Realm cultivators; Bodhisattva-based statues may potentially host Earth Immortals 573.
- Possessing cultivators cannot leave the range of the Physical Tathagata’s Buddha energy, but damage to their statue bodies does not harm their original bodies 573.
Heavenly Dao Transformation and Karma Fire
Ren Qing uses the Physical Tathagata as a controlled vessel for dangerous Heavenly Dao power.
- Ren Qing transfers his Heavenly Dao Transformation to the Physical Tathagata to strengthen his control and expand its tolerance for the transformation 565 617.
- Spiritual Mountain digests Karma Fire, reducing the time required for Ren Qing to heal the Heavenly Dao rift 585.
- The Tathagata Heavenly Immortal official position helps regulate its aura after it achieves Earth Immortal cultivation 617.
Relationships

- Great Compassionate Maitreya Bodhisattva — The giant corpse Buddha originally houses Buddha energy identified as the Bodhisattva’s true body; this energy maintains the internal Buddha-statue system 395 396.

- Li Yaoyang — Oversees Spirit Mountain’s defense and coordinates Jailer Hall cultivators inhabiting the Buddha statues 573.
- Insect Buddhas — Primary prey and fuel for the Physical Tathagata’s growth; many are devoured, converted, or imprisoned as sources of Buddha energy 568 570 573.
- Many-Tongued Buddha — Initially serves as the Physical Tathagata’s parasitized host; later becomes a converted subordinate after prolonged exposure 569 571.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Ci Shi and the Buddha among Buddhas
The giant corpse Buddha introduces Ren Qing to the horrifying internal structure of Great Compassionate Maitreya Bodhisattva’s Buddha energy: monks are endlessly used as expendable containers and labor within its stomach settlement 395 396.
Refinement by the Jailer Hall
Ren Qing refuses to abandon the Earth Immortal-level vessel and instead transforms it into a mobile foundation for survival. He equips the Jailer Hall to operate within its stomach and begins systematically modifying its flesh, organs, blood, and brain 397 416 421 439.
Rise of Spiritual Mountain
The refined Physical Tathagata enters Jingzhou’s deep world, consumes Insect Buddhas, spreads its corruptive Buddha energy, and converts Golden Gate Temple into a center for producing and absorbing Insect Buddhas 565 568 570.
Spirit Mountain Fortress
After awakening Buddha Kingdom in Palm, the Physical Tathagata becomes both a fortress and a battlefield. Jailer Hall cultivators possess its Buddha statues to gain power beyond their normal realms, while Li Yaoyang organizes the defense of Spirit Mountain 573.
Earth Immortal Vessel
