After getting off at the high-speed rail station and taking the subway to the neighborhood, Ren Suo felt the long-lost sensation of coming home.
Come to think of it, this might have been the first time in the past two years that he had returned home by conventional means.
The first time he returned home this year, he had been lying unconscious in an ambulance as he was transferred from Lianjiang City to White Cloud City.
The second time, he had been sitting in Qiao Muyi's car, getting repeatedly harassed by the female driver like some kept pretty boy. He had spent the whole ride petting cats and staring at Qiao Muyi—how could he have had any thoughts of home?
The third time was now. He was honestly taking public transportation and enjoying the convenience of urban infrastructure: the speeding high-speed rail, the subway security checks, the slightly crowded flow of people, the gently swaying carriage. Ren Suo savored the joyous flavor of waiting.
Ren Suo did not like traveling. One major reason was that he hated spending time on transportation. Ever since childhood, when he had suffered mild motion sickness and been shaken sick on buses during several spring and autumn outings, he had grown increasingly resistant to going out. And even if he could take a taxi, before reaching his destination, Ren Suo would still have to talk to people with different accents and follow unfamiliar maps. All of that felt tremendously troublesome to him.
But going home was different.
Going home meant returning from an unfamiliar place to a familiar one. He could plan the route without a map, anticipate the crowds in line, grow accustomed to the station announcements, and even the chatter was full of familiar profanity... It
