Abyss Experiment

Sitting out a war was a novel experience for Wizards.

The Wizards at the front built fortresses layer by layer, refining their defensive lines again and again. Yet as they looked upon the enemyless plains and skies, they could not shake the feeling that it was all a dream.

The Star River Mayflies had never been so quiet.

At least, not within the brief lives of the line-filling Wizards.

Within the General Headquarters, the many Wizards of the Staff Department had rarely found themselves with nothing to do.

Every report from the front stated that nothing had happened, and the intelligence sent back by the scouting parties they dispatched said the same.

The Star River Mayflies had neither made any large-scale troop movements nor pulled their forces back, nor had they sent most of their personnel to other battlefields.

Just as during the previous lull, they continuously patrolled the front-line battlefield while continuously constructing insect nests and hatcheries in the rear.

The two great figures seemed to have reached some sort of truce. I would not attack, and neither would you; everyone would live in peace.

But everyone in the General Staff Department knew that the war had merely taken on another form.

Fine buzzing continuously came from Richard's body.

Then, a dull sound suddenly rang out.

Bang!

Richard's right thumb exploded. The dense scales on the finger, along with every cell within it, collapsed and shattered in that instant.

"Still no good?"

Richard scratched his head, sounding somewhat discouraged.

Although he had prepared himself for failure, he had never expected to make no progress at all for three consecutive months.
