Hearing Richard repeat himself, the expressions of several Great Wizards shifted slightly. But constrained by his strength, none of them said anything.
Though seniority mattered among wizards, that was founded on the assumption that greater seniority meant greater strength. Richard was a Five-Ring Great Wizard; clearly, these Fourth Ring Great Wizards were in no position to flaunt their seniority before him.
"Looks like it really is you," Jellyfish Great Wizard said calmly. "Quite a few people find what you said rather grating."

"Be friends?" Richard revealed an intrigued smile. "It seems I've offended quite a few Great Wizards. Aren't you afraid of being ostracized for befriending me, Master?"
In this age of war, the connections between Great Wizards were no longer as close as they had been in the past. Even acquaintances might only contact one another once every few centuries.
Great Wizards needed to cooperate and support one another on the battlefield.
If someone was ostracized at a time like this, then when friendly forces were in trouble, others
