Coulson was looking over the different styles of Bulletproof Vests in his closet as he said to Grant Ward behind him:
"I understand your concern, but we don't have any other choice."
Ward said in a low voice, "She really does have some skill. In the middle of a conversation, she used her phone and a backdoor program to get an invitation."
"But sending her in undercover without training is too risky."
"I know that after your last act of self-sacrifice, Director Fury felt he owed you one."
Coulson added, "I also sacrificed my classic Captain America collectible cards."
Ward continued, "He gave you some autonomy, but sending Skye on a secret mission..."
Coulson asked in return, "Are you worried about her safety, or her loyalty?"
"Both."
"If it weren't for Rising Tide, she never would have gotten the invitation."
"Who knows how many other rules she's broken?"
Coulson chose the suit for this operation, then said to Ward, "That's her responsibility—ignoring those rules, finding connections and backdoors other people can't see."
"Do you have any other concerns?"
Ward took a deep breath, then said, "She's holding something back, Coulson."
"She says she wants to be an agent, but she isn't willing to go all in."
"She doesn't listen, and she loves to joke around."
Coulson asked back, "Are you being too strict with her?"
"Of course. I've tried being softer, too. I need a new strategy."
Coulson offered his own suggestion: "Try abandoning all strategy. Don't think like an agent. Think like a normal person."
"Maybe that way, Skye will be willing to accept your help."
Ward asked in confusion, "Help her with what?"
"Help her think about problems the way an agent
