"How did you know Old Master Gu had a Forget-Worry Gu inside him?"
Wen Yaoxin made no attempt to hide her curiosity as she looked at Zhong Yi.
She gave him a brief explanation.
Her grandfather, Wen Qingyun, had been an old friend of Gu Yun's mother.
Wen Qingyun had been the one who placed the Forget-Worry Gu inside Gu Yun.
Not long ago, the head of the Wen Household had sensed that the Forget-Worry Gu was in poor condition. Suspecting that Gu Yun was gravely ill, he had sent Wen Yaoxin to help his old friend's son.
That also answered a question Zhong Yi had been puzzling over: why Gu Yun had never summoned a Gu Doctor to treat Lin Xi.
"Forget-Worry Gu? What does it do?"
Zhong Yi raised an eyebrow and pressed on.
"Just as its name suggests, it makes people forget some of their past memories."
Wen Yaoxin answered honestly.
"So it only erases memories..."
Zhong Yi frowned. That was far simpler than the Gu Worm he had imagined.
It did explain why the earlier memories were fragmented and incomplete;
but it still did not explain why Gu Yun seemed to have been playing the part of someone else all along.
"Could it let another person's soul live inside someone's body?"
"You're joking, Immortal Master... Gu Worms like that exist only in legends."
Wen Yaoxin shook her head, dismissing his idea.
"But..."
"If you used someone's flesh or hair as a catalyst and guided it with Witchcraft... you really could take on a trace of that person's presence."
After a moment's thought, Wen Yaoxin added that qualification.
"That's it!"
Zhong Yi nodded excitedly.
