Crack!

A golden fissure opened in the void, and power spread silently from it.

Ron's consciousness traveled through a special Faith Channel and reached the Galaxy.

At that moment, he existed in both the Galaxy and the Warp, looking down on the brilliant sweep of stars.

The Galaxy looked utterly different from how it had a thousand years ago, when the Great Rift opened.

Back then, darkness had covered the Galaxy. Ugly scars had filled the void, and one Civilized World after another had suffered through war. Everything had been dark and lifeless.

Those Civilized Worlds had been choked with polluted acid fog and consumed by flames. Few lights of civilization remained; only the uppermost levels of a handful of Hive Cities showed any glimmer.

As a statistic, those untold trillions of humans looked like nothing more
