Devere simply could not believe there was a traitor within the Logistics Department.
And that they had colluded with Heretics of Chaos!
Everyone admitted into the Logistics Department had undergone strict vetting.
Most of their families had contributed to the Palatine District and had served the Governor for generations.
What was more, the family Ari had pointed out belonged to Vassi, Devere's senior colleague in the Logistics Department.
When Devere had first joined the Logistics Department, Vassi had helped him greatly.
He had also learned that Vassi's family had served the Governor for nearly a thousand years, with several ancestors dying or working themselves to death in the line of duty.
Vassi had even received commendation from Spire Mansion for his diligent work.
Back then, Devere had secretly sworn that he would bring honor to his family just like Senior Vassi.
Yet now, that crude One-Eye claimed Vassi was a traitor, perhaps even a Heretic.
He absolutely did not believe it!
Ari did not care whether Devere believed it or not.
With a cigar clenched between his teeth, he slung the shotgun over his shoulder.
"Come on, pretty boy. Whether it's true or not, we'll know after we search the place..."
As he spoke, Ari led several Defense Force soldiers upstairs and kicked the door open.
"Open up! Inspection!"
"What are you doing?!"
"Dad!"
Vassi's family stood there in their pajamas, clearly flustered.
But Vassi recognized the Defense Force. He shielded his wife and son behind him, straightened his back, and angrily rebuked them.
"You're from the Defense Force?
Who gave you the right to let you Lower Hive people enter this place?
Get out, all of you, immediately!
Otherwise, under the laws of the Palatine District, you will be executed!"
Faced with Vassi's rebuke, the Defense Force soldiers hesitated.
