The Spirit Realm was merely a name. There were hundreds of thousands of Lower Realms, and each Spirit Realm governed a different number of smaller realms. You could think of the Spirit Realms as provinces, each with a different number of counties and cities under its jurisdiction, while those counties and cities were the Lower Realms. It wasn't that a particular race from a particular Lower Realm had to ascend to a specific Spirit Realm. There were hundreds of thousands of Lower Realms, after all! Which Spirit Realm you ascended to depended on the Lower Realm you were in. If one route didn't work, you could switch to another realm. Four Seasons Sword Master was one such example. It was like trying to get from a county seat to a city when one of the roads was blocked: you either took a detour or waited. Or, say you wanted to travel from Guangxi to Hainan, but all the flights had been grounded. You could only use another method—go to a different city first, then transfer onward to Hainan. That made it easier to understand, right?
