After parting ways with Oscar, Wang Xiaofeng found a quiet spot and opened the book Flander had just given him.
The book detailed which meridians Soul Power needed to pass through to increase it more quickly. Wang Xiaofeng gave it a try and found that it could raise his cultivation speed by at least thirty percent. Once he became familiar with the circulation route, it might increase even further.
This was practically a bootleg martial arts manual. If he could keep researching it, he might even develop a Meditation Method that people without Soul Power could cultivate.
Wang Xiaofeng flipped further ahead. The following content was all research on various Martial Souls.
"Wow, this Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon is seriously broken. That dragon transformation is utterly unreasonable..."
"So the Clear Sky Hammer is this powerful? Its weight increases along with Soul Power..."
"The person who wrote this book must be some big shot. At the very least, their connections must be damn good. Could they be some elder from Spirit Hall?"
As he continued flipping through the book, a term suddenly caught Wang Xiaofeng's attention.
"Research and analysis on Mimetic Cultivation Environments for Martial Souls? What's this? Why does it look like an academic paper?" Wang Xiaofeng read carefully and discovered that this was actually a cultivation aid.
The book stated that so-called mimetic cultivation meant that Spirit Masters cultivated their Martial Souls in an environment best suited to them. It could not exactly be called twice the result with half the effort, but it could provide excellent support.
"Plant-type Martial Souls are mainly suited for forests, food-type ones for kitchens, while Beast Martial Souls vary wildly and have no fixed environment."
Wang Xiaofeng stroked his chin. His Martial Soul could also be considered plant-type, so he could totally DIY a Forest Mimetic Cultivation Ground himself.
Once he decided on it, he got to work. Wang Xiaofeng borrowed several hoes from the villagers and asked around for a place with lots of trees that was not on noble territory.
"Isn't that just where we usually chop wood? Walk east from the village for over ten kilometers, and you'll see a forest. That's the place."
Wang Xiaofeng gave the villager two Silver Soul Coins in thanks, then set out for the place they had described.
An hour later, Wang Xiaofeng saw the Forest the villager had mentioned.
The Forest before him truly was not very large. By eye, none of the trees seemed taller than ten meters. But that suited Wang Xiaofeng perfectly. Trees that were too tall and large could not possibly be dragged back, and he did not have enough space to plant them anyway.
Half an hour later, Wang Xiaofeng had successfully broken three hoes and dug out a large tree.
"This tree looks like it weighs at least half a ton. If I want to drag it back, I can only rely on my Martial Soul."
Wang Xiaofeng could only summon his Martial Soul. The two Soul Rings on his body flickered as absorption and amplification instantly rose to their maximum.
"Let's go!"
Wang Xiaofeng strained as he pulled the large tree, slowly dragging it back.
Along the way, Wang Xiaofeng occasionally ran into familiar villagers. He teased them a little while hauling the tree, stopping now and then to recover his Soul Power.
In this way, before the sun set, Wang Xiaofeng finally dragged the tree to the entrance of the dormitory.
"Whew! I'm exhausted." Wang Xiaofeng wiped away his sweat.
"Xiaofeng, what are you..." Oscar had just finished cultivating when he heard a commotion outside. When he looked over, he found that a large tree had appeared at the door, along with a dusty and travel-worn Wang Xiaofeng.
Wang Xiaofeng then explained the Mimetic Cultivation Ground mentioned in the book to Oscar, saying that he wanted to try making one. Even if he failed, there would be no loss.
"By the way, want to go watch Big Boss Dai and the others have class?" Oscar looked at the gradually darkening sky and asked.
Wang Xiaofeng was immediately shocked. He had completely forgotten about that. He hurried into the dormitory and called out anxiously, "I'll wash my face first. I'll be right there."
When Wang Xiaofeng and Oscar arrived at the Training Field, they saw Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun sprawled exhausted on the ground, with Zhao Wuji standing before them with a smile on his face.
Wang Xiaofeng whispered, "This should be their punishment for being late this morning."
Oscar nodded in deep agreement.
"You're here." A pair of large hands patted the two of them on the shoulders.
"Holy crap!" Wang Xiaofeng and Oscar jumped in fright. Turning around, they found that it was Headmaster Flander.
Wang Xiaofeng patted his chest and said, "Headmaster, if you scare us both to death, you won't be able to earn any interest."
Flander ignored him and pointed at the two corpses lying on the ground. "Don't be late next time, or you'll be joining them."
Hmph, just killing a chicken to scare the monkeys. Wang Xiaofeng inwardly despised Flander, but outwardly nodded with a frightened expression. Oscar was scared stiff already, wasn't he?
"Alright, Oscar, give each of them a sausage. Otherwise, they won't be able to attend tonight's class."
"Your father has one..." Oscar pinched his fingers in an effeminate pose. His first Soul Ring shone as he summoned two sausages.
No matter how many times Wang Xiaofeng saw it, he still found Oscar's nauseatingly coquettish summoning pose hard to endure.
Holding the two sausages, Oscar pried open Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun's mouths amid their terrified expressions and shoved the sausages inside.
Watching the two recover enough strength to move before long and run aside to dry heave, Wang Xiaofeng calmly asked Oscar to make a few more sausages.
It could not be helped. Wang Xiaofeng had accidentally missed dinner, and sausages were all he had to eat now.
Then, beneath the admiring gazes of the other two, Wang Xiaofeng ate over a dozen sausages.
Honestly, if Oscar did not strike that lecherous pose when summoning his Martial Soul, there was nothing too bad about sausages paired with a Soul Incantation.
Flander looked at the sky and decided that the time was about right. He waved his hand. "Set off. Follow me."
With that, he tapped the ground with his toes and shot off lightly toward the direction outside the academy. Everyone hurried after him.
Before long, Wang Xiaofeng discovered Flander's destination. It was Suotuo City.
The five of them smoothly entered Suotuo City. Though night had already fallen, Suotuo City seemed as though it had just awakened, even livelier than during the day.
Every shop along the streets was brightly lit. Vendors who only came out to do business at night had also found their usual spots, selling snacks, trinkets, and the like.
"Today, our destination is over there." Following the direction of Flander's finger, Wang Xiaofeng saw a cluster of towering buildings not far from the street.
"Headmaster, what's that place for?" Wang Xiaofeng asked curiously.
"That is the Great Spirit Arena, where Spirit Masters fight." Flander smiled casually. "Tonight's class will be held there."
"At the same level, aside from Soul Bones, what determines victory or defeat is practical combat experience. So your first lesson is actual combat. That place will be your classroom."
As they walked toward the Soto Great Spirit Arena, Flander briefly explained some of the remaining details about the Spirit Arena to Wang Xiaofeng and the others.
"Spirit Masters of any level who achieve their first victory will receive a badge. After that, every victory earns a certain number of Points. Once the Points reach a certain level, the badge advances in rank. The lowest rank is the Iron Badge, also known as Iron Spirit. Above that are bronze, silver, gold, platinum, sapphire, ruby, and diamond. Eight ranks in total."
Isn't this just black iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, master, and king? Wang Xiaofeng muttered inwardly.
"If you win at the Great Spirit Arena, won't some family faction assassinate you?" Wang Xiaofeng asked.
"They won't." Flander shook his head. "The reason the Great Spirit Arena is favored by Spirit Masters is its relative fairness. The forces behind it will not allow anyone to undermine that rule."
Flander smiled meaningfully. "Besides, who would dare provoke Spirit Hall and the two great empires at the same time?"
Upon entering the Great Spirit Arena, the first thing they saw was a massive stone monument carved with densely packed names. Flander told Wang Xiaofeng and the others that those names belonged to people who had died in Spirit Arena battles.
Seeing the four of them turn pale, Flander drawled, "You're only here to spar, not to fight to the death."
Ma Hongjun patted his chest fearfully. "Teacher, could you please finish what you're saying in one breath?"
After leading the four of them in line for a while, Flander successfully registered them.
"Xiaofeng, your Soul Power level has actually caught up to mine." When Oscar saw that Wang Xiaofeng had the same Soul Power level as him during the test, he felt somewhat embarrassed. After getting to know Wang Xiaofeng over the past few days, he knew that Wang Xiaofeng had only been born with level-five Soul Power.
Wang Xiaofeng shrugged, making it seem as though he could only barely keep up with them through hard cultivation.
"For today's class, Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun will each register for one Spirit battle. Wang Xiaofeng and Oscar can just observe from the side with me."
"Headmaster, I want to fight too!" Wang Xiaofeng raised his right hand. Since they were already here, how could he just be a spectator?
Oscar excitedly said from the side that he wanted to go up and give it a try as well.
Flander rubbed his forehead. It seemed he would not be able to gamble today. "Then Wang Xiaofeng and Ma Hongjun will form one team, while Dai Mubai and Oscar form another. Register for two-versus-two."
"Fatty, with my support, get ready to make a huge splash today." Wang Xiaofeng waved grandly and took Ma Hongjun to register for two-versus-two.
"Got it, Brother Feng." Ma Hongjun obediently followed behind Wang Xiaofeng. He had long since asked Dai Mubai just how powerful Wang Xiaofeng's support skills were.
So I, Ma Hongjun, finally have a day to rise from being a loser. Thinking of himself showing off his might while beautiful women throughout the arena cheered for him, he could not help bursting into laughter.
"Fatty, stop grinning like an idiot. What should our team be called?" Wang Xiaofeng patted Ma Hongjun on the shoulder, snapping him back to his senses.
