RandomTranslator is a connector for AI apps (MCP). Ask an assistant about your library, your place in a novel, what updated, a novel's glossary and its recaps, with your own data.
Address: https://randomtranslator.com/mcp. Sign in with your RandomTranslator (Patreon) account; the connector needs the Reader membership or higher.
RandomTranslator is not listed in the Claude or ChatGPT app directories: you add it yourself, by this address, as a custom connector.
Claude#
On claude.ai, the desktop app or the mobile app; once added it works on all of them.
- Open Settings, then Connectors, and press Add custom connector.
- Name it
RandomTranslator, enterhttps://randomtranslator.com/mcpas the URL, leave the advanced settings empty, and press Add. - Press Connect. Sign in with Patreon if you are asked, read the consent page and press Allow. You come back to Claude.
- In a chat, open the tools menu and check that RandomTranslator is on.
Try: "Which of my RandomTranslator novels got new chapters this week?"
ChatGPT#
ChatGPT adds a connector by URL in developer mode.
- Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode (your plan has to allow it).
- In Apps & Connectors, press Create.
- Name it
RandomTranslator, enterhttps://randomtranslator.com/mcp, choose OAuth for authentication, confirm you trust it and press Create. - Sign in with Patreon when the RandomTranslator page opens, read the consent page and press Allow.
- In a chat, pick it from the tools menu (+, then developer mode).
Claude Code#
claude mcp add --transport http randomtranslator https://randomtranslator.com/mcp
Then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose RandomTranslator to sign in.
Cursor and other clients#
Any client that speaks MCP over HTTP with OAuth sign-in. In Cursor, add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"randomtranslator": {
"url": "https://randomtranslator.com/mcp"
}
}
}
An app that registers itself as an OAuth client does so at https://randomtranslator.com/oauth/register; the details are in Get a key.
What the sign-in shows#
- Signed out: the RandomTranslator sign-in, then back.
- Free account: "Membership required". The connector is for Reader members and up, and nothing was shared. Join or renew on Patreon or on your account page, then connect again.
- Reader or higher: the consent page, "Allow <app> to use your RandomTranslator account?", signed in as your public username. It lists what the app will be able to do, one line per permission it asked for, and what it will not: change your account, library or settings; see your email or Patreon details; or translate, request or refresh novels, or spend money on your behalf. It names the site you return to. The app's name is plain text: if it is not the app you are adding, press Cancel.

Answers are in English, with the original Chinese titles and names where they exist. Inputs, outputs and example questions for each: Connector tools.
The connector never translates or re-translates a chapter, requests or refreshes a novel, uses Google Translate, reads aloud, calls an AI model, changes your library or puts chapter text in the chat. It reads what the site already holds.
Connector limits#
- 60 calls a minute for each connected app, and 2,000 calls a day for your account, shared by every app you connected and starting again at 00:00 UTC. They are never counted per address, and not in your API key's units.
- A call refused for a wrong input, an unknown novel or a fault on our side does not count. One that runs past 10 seconds does.
- The connector can be paused to protect the site; it then answers that it is unavailable.
Connector privacy#
- The app sees your public username, never your email, your Patreon details or your account id. It gets a token that works only on RandomTranslator, only for what you allowed.
- What we keep for a connection: which app, which permissions, when it was connected and last used, and its tokens as keyed hashes that nobody can read back. Access tokens last an hour; refresh tokens 60 days and change on every use.
- One log line per call (tool, time taken, whether it worked, the app's name), with no token and no content.
- To stop an app, press Disconnect next to it under Connected apps on your account page, or remove it in the app. Sign out everywhere disconnects every app, and a suspended account loses access at once. If your membership lapses the app stays connected but is refused until it is active again.
RandomTranslator and DaoSearch#
DaoSearch (daosearch.io) is a separate site with its own connector, for Chinese-side rankings, figures and reader reviews. The two are kept apart: separate sign-in (Patreon here, Google or Discord there), separate tokens that neither accepts from the other, and no shared data. A RandomTranslator novel links its DaoSearch page when we know it, and DaoSearch links RandomTranslator's English page; neither calls the other while answering you. With both added, an assistant uses each for what it knows.
