Hanma and the Soul King began their decisive war in Soul Society, while their allies and the Gotei 13 clashed across the battlefield. The chapter left the Soul King and Hanma sealed away together, with the other fighters beginning their battles.

• The Soul King reinforced Soul Society as Hanma arrived with his nine kin and shattered the Soul King's Reishi dragons with his roar.
• Hanma and the Soul King taunted each other before the Soul King suppressed Hanma and told their allies that the other battles would decide the war.
• Minato, Tsunade, and Kaguya vowed to fight quickly and return home, while the Soul King grew enraged at Hanma's bonds with his kin.
• The Soul King sent Hanma and himself into a sealed rule space, and Ichibē Hyōsube ordered the remaining fighters to begin the war.

In the World of the Living, Ichigo Kurosaki discovered that Aizen was inside his spiritual world and was among the powers he had to conquer to learn the Final Getsuga Tenshō.

Ichigo Kurosaki learned that Aizen, the Hōgyoku, White Ichigo, and Zangetsu had fused within him and agreed to help him prepare for the battle against Hell. As Ichigo slept and adapted to their power, Orochimaru summoned six dead Shinigami with Hell: Impure World Reincarnation Jutsu to help Tsunade pursue Shinji Hirako and Jūshirō Ōhen.

• Aizen explained that Ichigo, the Hōgyoku, and he had fused, and that the Hōgyoku now supported Ichigo’s evolution.
• Aizen, White Ichigo, and Zangetsu offered Ichigo their power and urged him to grow stronger rather than sacrifice himself for the Soul King or the Gotei 13.

Jushiro Ukitake invoked the Soul King's right arm and used its rules of stillness and retreat to stop the attackers and revive fallen Shinigami, as Ichigo Kurosaki arrived and Aizen urged his inner allies to help him devour the Soul King's essence.
