Splat!
Chen Mu calmly slit the Black-robed Man's throat before him, and blood sprayed across the ground.
"The twelfth."
"More Death Soldiers like this. The Black Robe Pathseekers Society's methods are getting more and more low-grade."
Chen Mu sheathed his Knight Sword and murmured to himself.
At first, the Death Soldiers sneaking near the Manor had all been Formal Knights.
But over the past few days, even the Formal Knights had disappeared. Those coming now were all Quasi-Knight-level Death Soldiers.
These Death Soldiers could naturally only get close to the Manor with Earl Arthur's approval. Otherwise, mere cannon fodder like them could never approach the Golden Lion Family's core territory.
Are they trying to numb us with these Death Soldiers, then launch an all-out attack once we let down our guard?
That was one possibility Chen Mu could think of.
But Chen Mu felt that possibility was unlikely. If he could think of it, Earl Arthur could naturally think of it too.
The tactic was far too childish. At this point, no one would possibly let down their guard.
Just then, a Black-robed Man suddenly appeared behind Chen Mu.
Though he sensed the Black-robed Man, Chen Mu made no move.
The Black-robed Man leaned close to Chen Mu's ear and whispered a few words.
"Now? All right, I understand."
Chen Mu nodded, then sheathed his Knight Sword and headed toward Golden Lion Manor.
He was actually somewhat surprised. Hadn't the family meeting just been held yesterday?
Earl Arthur was convening another family meeting after only one day. It was probably no trivial matter.
Chen Mu moved quickly and soon arrived at the family meeting room.
When Earl Arthur saw Chen Mu enter, he looked at him and nodded.
Chen Mu also took note of everyone in the meeting room.
"William and Aim are both here."
Chen Mu was somewhat surprised.
Including him, there were four people in total. The last time all four had attended a meeting together had been more than ten days ago.
William had not attended yesterday's family meeting, after all, because he needed to watch over the underground palace.
Now that everyone was here, it was clearly no small matter.
"Everyone is here. Then let the meeting begin."
Once Chen Mu had taken his seat, Earl Arthur spoke softly.
"Aim, you go first."
As the meeting began, Earl Arthur looked at Aim and spoke.
Aim wore a grave expression and nodded lightly.
Then he said, "The Wizard Apprentices of the Black Robe Pathseekers Society have begun to move.
According to confidential reports sent back by the Dark Web, Wizard Apprentices of the Black Robe Pathseekers Society have been spotted in Four Seasons City to the south of the Far East Territory and Connel City to the north.
These Wizard Apprentices have made no attempt to conceal their tracks. Their target is the Golden Lion Family!"
Aim's voice was grave, and Chen Mu, seated at the round table, listened intently as well.
They aren't concealing themselves at all? Are they that confident? Chen Mu was startled. He did not question whether Aim's words were true. Since Aim had brought this matter up at such an important family meeting, the intelligence had to be accurate.
Chen Mu was no stranger to the Dark Web either. It was an intelligence organization spread throughout the Far East Territory, and Aim was the one in charge of it.
"Were Wizard Apprentices only spotted in those two cities? How many were discovered in total?"
After Aim finished speaking, Earl Arthur continued with his questions.
Chen Mu knew that his father should already be aware of this. Earl Arthur was really asking on behalf of him and William.
"Four Seasons City and Connel City are the places where Wizard Apprentices of the Black Robe Pathseekers Society have definitely been found. There are four in total.
There are also two places where Wizard Apprentices of the Black Robe Pathseekers Society were possibly spotted: the East Forest Plain and the Black Stone Tavern in the Stone Forest."
Aim spoke each word clearly, while Chen Mu and William listened closely.
"Four people? Should we strike first and intercept them directly?"
William spoke, a trace of killing intent in his voice.
Hearing this, Earl Arthur shook his head. "No. Their deliberate exposure of their whereabouts is likely meant to lure us into making a move. There may already be people hidden in ambush."
After saying that, Earl Arthur looked at Chen Mu and spoke again. "Vieri, do you think the places where Wizard Apprentices were discovered and the places where they were possibly discovered have anything in common?"
"Something in common?"
Chen Mu looked at Earl Arthur, who had turned to him, and thought for a moment.
The places Aim had mentioned earlier quickly surfaced in his mind, and Chen Mu gradually connected them together.
But after thinking for a while, he did not find any particular common ground. If there really was one, then it could only be...
"They're all very far away?"
Chen Mu spoke somewhat uncertainly.
His reasoning was simple. Four Seasons City in the south and Connel City in the north were both the two outermost cities of the Far East Territory, extremely far from the Golden Lion Family's core territory.
As for the East Forest Plain and the Black Stone Tavern, those two places did not even technically fall within the Far East Territory.
Without question, all four locations were very far from Golden Lion Manor, the core of the Far East Territory.
At Chen Mu's words, a trace of approval appeared in Earl Arthur's eyes.
"That's right. They're all very far away. So why would they expose their location in cities so far from Golden Lion Manor?"
Earl Arthur asked Chen Mu again.
Chen Mu knew his father was deliberately testing him, so he thought carefully.
The people of the Black Robe Pathseekers Society could have completely hidden their tracks, yet they had deliberately exposed them in the two cities farthest from Golden Lion Manor.
Chen Mu did not believe it was simply because the Black Robe Pathseekers Society was arrogant, looked down on the Golden Lion Family, and did not care about being exposed.
Then what was the reason?
Suddenly, an idea struck Chen Mu.
"Could this be a feint? The Wizard Apprentices in Four Seasons City and Connel City deliberately exposed their tracks.
At the same time, there may be other Wizard Apprentices who have concealed their tracks, and those Wizard Apprentices who hid themselves might..."
Chen Mu paused before continuing, "They might already be close to the Manor..."
Chen Mu did not know whether his guess was correct. The thought had only just occurred to him, so he voiced it without hesitation.
"A feint? That's quite an apt description."
Earl Arthur spoke with some surprise.
"More or less. My thoughts are somewhat similar to Vieri's.
The Wizard Apprentices who deliberately exposed their tracks in Four Seasons City and Connel City were likely trying to make us lower our guard.
Since they can deliberately reveal themselves, they can naturally deliberately hide themselves as well. As far as I know, the Black Robe Pathseekers Society has far more than four or five Wizard Apprentices.
The Black Robe Pathseekers Society's attack will likely come within the next few days. Vieri is right. Their Wizard Apprentices may already be close."
Earl Arthur swept his gaze around the room as he spoke. Though his voice was not loud, everyone heard him clearly.
"As expected."
Chen Mu had guessed correctly. His thoughts had coincided with Earl Arthur's.
