Background & History

Yu Xiaogang intervened when Tang San was being denied entry to Nuoding Academy. After examining Tang San's Spirit Soul Certificate, he correctly identified Blue Silver Grass, Innate Full Soul Power, and Twin Martial Souls, then attempted to persuade Tang San to accept him as a master. Lu Mingchuan challenged Xiaogang's Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul with specific questions; Xiaogang could not answer them, and Tang San left without accepting him at the time 6.

Tang Hao later visited Xiaogang privately, revealed that Tang San was his son, and entrusted the boy to him. Xiaogang initially hesitated because he considered himself capable only of teaching theory and lacked both the strength and funds to hunt soul beasts. He agreed after Tang Hao limited his responsibility to theory instruction 9.

During Tang San's first soul-ring hunt, Xiaogang failed to recognize that he and Tang San had been affected by an illusion. Tang San consequently absorbed a ten-year Soft Bone Rabbit Soul Ring rather than the hundred-year Man-faced Demon Spider ring they expected, leaving Tang San resentful of his master's weakness 13 14.

Xiaogang places great importance on his theoretical reputation. He nevertheless showed genuine willingness to guide Tang San after Tang Hao entrusted the boy to him 9.

Later events reveal a more arrogant and entitled side. After Tang San's presumed death, Xiaogang became consumed by the belief that Lu Mingchuan's power came from a Self-Created Soul Skill and that such a skill belonged in his own hands 100. He sought Bibi Dong's assistance without recognizing the emotional cost to her, readily accepting her condition that they sever all ties afterward 103.

The prolonged abuse he suffered in Spirit City left him severely traumatized. Physical contact triggered involuntary reactions, and learning that Lu Mingchuan's supposed Self-Created Soul Skill was actually innate drove him into a lasting mental breakdown 109 111.

Xiaogang's attempted recruitment of Tang San was initially ruined by Lu Mingchuan's questions. Tang Hao's later intervention secured Xiaogang's place as Tang San's teacher, but the failed first soul-ring hunt damaged their relationship from the beginning 6 9 14.

Shrek Academy Incident

After arriving at Shrek Academy, Xiaogang reunited with Flender and encountered Liu Erlong. Lu Mingchuan used a system item to compel Xiaogang to eat excrement despite Liu Erlong's attempts to stop him, humiliating him before their reunion could proceed normally 75 77.

Pursuit of a Self-Created Soul Skill

Following Tang San's death, Xiaogang concluded that Lu Mingchuan's strength depended on a Self-Created Soul Skill. He went to Spirit Hall to ask Bibi Dong to obtain it for him, agreed to end their relationship in exchange for her help, and lost his Pope's Token afterward 100 102 103.

Captivity and Mental Collapse

After leaving Spirit Hall injured, Xiaogang was taken by Ruhua and Yang Wei, who held and abused him for nearly a month. Though his physical wounds were treated after his rescue, the trauma remained untreatable and left him unable to endure touch or maintain his mental stability 104 109 110.

A letter revealing that Lu Mingchuan's feared ability was innate—not a Self-Created Soul Skill—destroyed Xiaogang's remaining hope of using it to break through Rank 30 111.

Death

While Xiaogang remained restrained and delirious, repeatedly muttering about Lu Mingchuan's power, Oscar entered his room and killed him in a rage following Flender's death 135.
