An ancient little town appeared in Wang Chen's field of vision from afar.
This place had long since ceased to be part of Great Qian's territory. Riding Big Green Donkey all the way here, he had passed through desolate wilderness without a trace of human habitation. The sudden sight of such a town inevitably stirred a hint of warmth in his heart.
Even cultivators, unless they had reached a state of complete transcendence, could rarely endure years upon years of solitary cultivation. They, too, needed ordinary interaction and companionship.
Following a narrow track worn by cartwheels, Wang Chen entered the quaint little town.
There were not many buildings in town, but the gray bricks and dark tiles looked quite aged. Thick stone slabs paved the ground, and several shops stood open along both sides of the street. With few customers around, the place seemed rather deserted.
Wang Chen stopped before an inn. A young attendant came out to greet him. "Daoist, are you stopping for a meal or staying the night? We still have two Superior Rooms available."
"I'm staying for one night."
Wang Chen jumped down from the donkey's back and handed the reins to the attendant. "Get me a superior room."
As he spoke, he passed over one tael of Shattered Silver. "This is your tip. Take good care of this donkey and feed it some fine fodder."
"Certainly!"
The attendant grinned from ear to ear and thumped his chest. "I guarantee I'll feed your donkey until it's full to bursting!"
Big Green Donkey cocked its head and shot him a sidelong glance, then snorted out a thick breath in disdain.
"A distinguished guest has arrived!"
Unaware of Big Green Donkey's look, the attendant called loudly into the inn, "One superior room!"
"This way, please~"
