"I'm Police Superintendent Simpson."
The man from the General Police Bureau looked to be in his thirties or forties. His Police Superintendent uniform was crisp and immaculate, and his hair was slicked back until it gleamed.
He looked at Ronan with naked arrogance. "I've read your case report. You did very well."
After a pause, the Police Superintendent continued, "But there's a problem with it."
He stopped halfway through.
Clearly, he was waiting for Ronan to ask.
But Ronan pretended not to understand—he hated this kind of pretentious bastard most of all!
Police Superintendent Simpson waited a moment. Seeing Ronan remain unmoved, a flash of anger crossed his eyes. He coughed and said, "According to the report, you found the murderer through a beast pet, correct?"
"Yes."
Ronan nodded without changing expression. "Detective Kash can testify to that."
"I'm not questioning the authenticity of this report."
Police Superintendent Simpson waved a hand. "It's simply that we need the Special Ability of your beast pet to investigate another major case. Naturally, the General Police Bureau will provide an appropriate subsidy."
He emphasized, "We're only requisitioning your beast pet temporarily. You won't need to take part in cracking this case."
They had actually come for Little Black?
Ronan was somewhat surprised.
If this Police Superintendent from the General Police Bureau had come to steal credit and pick the ripe fruit, he would not have found it strange.
But Ronan had only submitted the case report last night, and someone had come today to requisition Little Black. There was clearly something fishy about this.
"I'm sorry."
Ronan sighed. "I'm very willing to serve the General Police Bureau, but that beast pet ran away last night. I still haven't found it, so I can't help you."
"Ran away?"
Police Superintendent Simpson's expression cracked instantly.
