Ronan's smile was bright and sunny, brimming with the vigor that belonged only to the young.
Yet when Ford Hamilton saw that smile, a chill suddenly rose in his heart, rushing to his head and seeping into his bones.

He went over Bald Eddie's case file again.
Though the file was thick and contained detailed records on the wanted criminal, including the crimes he had committed,
Ronan felt that something was off.
He suspected that parts of the file had been removed, or that deeper information had been concealed. In any case, it was definitely incomplete.

After giving it some thought, Ronan got up and left the precinct.
There was one advantage to ending his probation early and becoming an officially appointed Deputy Chief: while carrying out missions, he no longer needed to report in punctually every day, nor did he have to worry about arriving late or leaving early.
And unless he took an extended leave, it did not matter if he failed to show up at the police bureau for a day or two.
Chief Ford Hamilton's authority over him had been greatly weakened!
