Plop!
A raindrop the size of a soybean fell to the ground, stirring up a faint puff of dust.
Then more droplets came plummeting from the sky, splattering across the trees, the ground, and the rain pavilion. Their pattering went on without end, ceaseless and boundless.
In an instant, the entire world was shrouded in heavy rain. Even the rolling mountains in the distance vanished behind the curtain of rain, hazy and dreamlike, seemingly real yet unreal.
Fortunately, though the rain was fierce, the wind was not strong. The broad, long rain pavilion blocked the sudden downpour and did not disturb those seated within.
Qin Qingxuan gazed at Wang Chen, a trace of puzzlement flashing deep in her star-bright eyes.
She had long since investigated Wang Chen—or rather, Ling Zhiyuan's—background and origins thoroughly. She even possessed detailed knowledge of the former's experiences after joining the Blood-Clad Guard.
Yet the more she learned about Wang Chen, the more doubts arose in Qin Qingxuan's heart.
Before Ling Zhiyuan's father, Ling Hongyun, was murdered, there had been nothing remarkable about his life.
Since childhood, he had loathed martial arts and favored scholarship. Though gifted beyond ordinary men, he had not known how to cherish his talent. Even in his teens, he was still only a first-rank Martial Trainee. No one thought he would be able to inherit the Ling clan's family enterprise.
Yet one calamity had caused Ling Zhiyuan to mature overnight!
Not only had he joined the Blood-Clad Guard, but his cultivation had advanced by leaps and bounds in a very short time. Because of his accomplishments, he had been promoted exceptionally.
Ling Zhiyuan, once regarded as weak and easy to bully, had actually slain a Bloodthirsty Demon!
He had become the youngest Hundred-Household Commander in the Blood-Clad Guard!!
