Background
Tang San has lived two lives and was raised under Yu Xiaogang’s instruction from childhood. Yu Xiaogang regards him as the central hope for proving his theories, while Tang San initially places complete faith in his teacher’s knowledge. Ye Feng’s appearance—and especially his Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Ring at the Soul Venerable stage—causes Tang San to question those beliefs for the first time 6 17.
He is a member of Shrek Academy’s Seven Devils and is initially regarded as one of the group’s strongest and most dependable students. After Ye Feng gives him a trait that increases his energy and intelligence, Tang San’s emotional state increasingly centers on Xiao Wu and her changing attitude toward him 6 16.
Personality
Tang San is prideful, highly competitive, and determined to prove himself against stronger opponents. He volunteers to face Ye Feng after recognizing that Dai Mubai would likely lose, believing his Blue Silver Grass and techniques can counter a strength-focused opponent 6.
His defeats by Ye Feng expose a more unstable side. Tang San becomes deeply distressed by Xiao Wu’s admiration for Ye Feng, grows possessive of her, and repeatedly seeks a rematch to restore his pride. His emotional fixation eventually interferes with his cultivation and contribution to Shrek’s team cohesion 7 16 18 21.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang San’s martial soul specializes in binding and control.
- Blue Silver Entanglement — summons Blue Silver Grass from the ground to bind opponents and release paralytic toxins 7.
- He believed Blue Silver Grass was particularly suited to restraining strength-type martial souls 6.
- Ye Feng’s physical strength and bloodline-based defenses render Tang San’s binding and toxin ineffective during their first fight 7.
Tang Sect Techniques
Tang San employs movement, grappling, and mental techniques beyond standard Soul Skills.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — a rapid movement technique used to circle opponents and evade danger 6 7.
- Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — a grappling technique intended to redirect force and overcome stronger opponents; it fails when Ye Feng’s raw strength proves overwhelming 7.
- Purple Demon Eye — used in an attempt to disrupt Ye Feng’s mind and create an opening for hidden weapons 7.
Hidden Weapons
Tang San carries a stockpile of concealed weapons in his Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges storage tool.
- Dragon Whisker Needles — sixty-four fine needles released through Hidden Sand Shooting Shadow; they fail to penetrate Ye Feng’s Dragon Armor 7.
- Zhuge Divine Crossbow — his strongest hidden weapon; he uses poison-coated bolts against Ye Feng in the Soul Fighting Arena, but the bolts are redirected by Ye Feng’s Star Domain Field 19 20.
- His hidden weapons are limited in number, and his supply is nearly exhausted during his first battle with Ye Feng 7.
Eight Spider Lances
An External Soul Bone gained from the Man Faced Demon Spider.
- Obtained together with his third Soul Ring 11.
- Initially difficult for him to control, causing his companions to keep their distance for fear of being stabbed 11.
- Its poison is among the advantages Tang San intends to combine with his hidden weapons in his rematch against Ye Feng 19.
Trait Effects
Ye Feng secretly gives Tang San traits that alter his attributes and mindset.
- Receives an increase of Energy +20 and Intelligence +10 6.
- The First Stirrings of Love trait intensifies his concern for Xiao Wu and contributes to his growing emotional dependence on her 9 16.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges — storage tool containing Tang San’s hidden weapons 7 19.

- Dragon Whisker Needles — high-penetration needles launched through Hidden Sand Shooting Shadow 7.
- Eight Spider Lances — External Soul Bone acquired from the Man Faced Demon Spider 11.
Relationships
- Xiao Wu — Shrek companion whom Tang San initially considers a younger sister before realizing that he wants to marry her. Her growing admiration for Ye Feng becomes the source of his jealousy and distress 11 18 21.
- Ye Feng — rival who repeatedly defeats Tang San, first with a single restrained punch and later through the Star Domain Field. Tang San views him with hostility, particularly because of Ye Feng’s closeness to Xiao Wu 7 18 20.
- Yu Xiaogang — teacher and childhood mentor. Yu Xiaogang considers Tang San the repository of his hopes and is devastated by the fractures in Tang San’s condition and team relationships 17.
- Tang Hao — father. Tang Hao later visits Tang San in Heaven Dou City and is relieved to find him unharmed 116.
- Shrek Seven Devils — teammates whose unity deteriorates after Ye Feng’s interventions; Tang San’s conflict with Xiao Wu becomes a major strain on the group 16 17.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent Conflict
Tang San enters the Star Dou Forest with Shrek to obtain Soul Rings. He volunteers to fight Ye Feng and Meng Yiran over ownership of a Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent, but his Blue Silver Grass, hidden weapons, and techniques fail to overcome Ye Feng. Ye Feng defeats him with a single punch while deliberately holding back 5 6 7 8.
Following this loss, Tang San reaches level 30 and later acquires the Man Faced Demon Spider’s Thousand-Year Soul Ring and the Eight Spider Lances 9 11.
Xiao Wu’s Disappearance
When the Titan Giant Ape takes Xiao Wu away, Tang San panics and rushes into the forest to search for her. After her return, he realizes his feelings for her, but Xiao Wu rejects his frantic behavior and compares him unfavorably to Ye Feng 10 11.
Soul Fighting Arena Rematch
Tang San draws Ye Feng as his opponent in a Soul Elder-level one-on-one match. Believing his third Soul Ring, Eight Spider Lances, Yu Xiaogang’s training, and Zhuge Divine Crossbow will let him avenge his earlier defeat, he challenges Ye Feng again 19.
Ye Feng redirects the crossbow bolts and immobilizes Tang San with the Star Domain Field. Tang San demands to be released for a “fair fight,” but Xiao Wu rebukes him for refusing to concede; he faints from rage shortly afterward 20.
Shrek’s Internal Strife
After the rematch, Tang San confronts Xiao Wu over Ye Feng and becomes increasingly preoccupied with repairing their relationship. Flender and Yu Xiaogang identify Tang San’s emotional turmoil as one of the problems preventing Shrek from functioning as a united team 16 17 21.
