A small, scenic lake lay before him, its surface dotted with lotus blossoms and broad leaves. Little fish swam leisurely beneath the water, while a gentle breeze stirred layer upon layer of ripples.
Fan Lang sat by the lake, fishing with a rod. The long rod curved naturally, and a fishing line dropped straight down into the water.

The line hanging from his rod was wandering through every corner of the Universe Six Paths planes. It had no fixed destination, appearing in the Human Path at times and the Ghost Path at others.
Fan Lang was seeking a suitable soul for his future descendant—or, more precisely, an "Initial Spirit."

Fan Lang valued that quality of an Initial Spirit and decided to find one to serve as his child's soul.
A brand-new soul, a brand-new beginning.
Initial Spirits could be strong or weak, but Fan Lang was not looking for the strongest one. He was looking for the one most fated with him. He fished in the void, casting his bait into the Six Paths.
If an Initial Spirit took the bait, it would prove that it was fated with him.
Whether that Initial Spirit was strong or weak did not matter. Fan Lang had the ability to turn it into the strongest soul, so strength was not the issue. Fate was all that mattered.
Fate was truly wondrous!
