Chapter 2007: Doomsday
Fan Lang had indeed died; even his soul no longer existed.
Yet in this world, some lives transcended life and death.
"Cultivate a technique that cannot be mastered, fight a battle that cannot be won, abandon a feeling you cannot bear to abandon, forget things you cannot forget, comprehend a truth you cannot comprehend, transcend a boundary that cannot be transcended. Those words echoed repeatedly around Fan Lang, stirring his heart.
Calling it "around his ears" was not quite accurate. He no longer possessed a physical body, much less ears. He could merely hear those words in some inexplicable way.
Death held immense terror.
Yet Fan Lang's heart was as still as water, without the slightest trace of fear.
He was in a state free of sorrow and joy. Everything that had happened in the past seemed to have become unimportant.
His pursuit of power, his attachment to emotions, his feelings toward all things in the world—he could let them all go.
While alive, he had never managed to master that Immortal Technique. Now that he was dead, enlightenment came naturally to him. He understood its many mysteries, and the technique began operating on its own.
He had mastered the technique that could not be mastered.
He had fought the battle that could not be won.
What should be abandoned had been abandoned, what should be forgotten had been forgotten, and what should be understood had been understood.
He had fulfilled every condition, so he ascended, flying ever upward. There was no concept of time, nor any concept of space. He simply flew upward.
Neither time nor distance could measure this path of ascension.
