Zhao Yarou concealed her true disposition for more than ten years by posing as a good girl. Ye Lang identified her extreme ambition through counter-psychology questions, prompting her to admit that she feared losing her inheritance rights and had prepared to seize the throne at any cost. 105 106

She engineered the spy-scout crisis, leaked information to selected parties, and used the resulting instability to stage her coup. During the seizure of power, she poisoned the gathering with Seven Day Death poison, activated a Magic Restriction Array to strip those present of Magic and Battle Qi, and demanded their submission. 104 105

Although Zhao Yarou publicly appeared to have murdered the Xiangkong Emperor, he was later revealed to have survived. She had confined him and other imperial relatives within their former palace residences using an Alchemy Array that isolated them from the outside world. 104 774

After becoming Empress, Zhao Yarou blamed her opponents for the Emperor's death and ordered a merciless siege against Ye Lang's escaping group.
