One thing that most people in the world found hard to imagine was that the Azure Dragon and Bai Ze, two divine beasts, had quite a good relationship.

The Azure Dragon had lived through an exceedingly long span of years, nearly of the same generation as the Venerable of the Crow Nest and the Patriarch Mayfly, the longest-lived great demons of the present age. There might only have been a difference of centuries or even millennia between them.

When the Azure Dragon had first taken up residence in Penglai, the Penglai Supreme Sect had not yet formally taken shape. During Bai Ze's growth, the Azure Dragon had also given her guidance and help.

Yet Bai Ze had later surpassed him. After reaching the Eighth Realm, her cultivation had exceeded the Azure Dragon's, and she had become a Boundary Breaker. Divine beasts comprehended the Great Dao slowly to begin with; even their shortest periods of seclusion often lasted a hundred years or more, so they had not been in contact recently.

Shushan and Penglai had only become hostile within the past few centuries. To these two divine beasts, that was not a particularly long stretch of time. Neither of them wished to involve themselves in the schemes and struggles among humankind.

That was precisely why the Azure Dragon had remained behind to guard the Penglai Supreme Sect rather than coming to Shushan to fight Bai Ze. He was willing to do his utmost in defending Penglai, but he was unwilling to attack Shushan.
