Ming Lunyu quickly sensed that something was wrong—what exactly was the King of Slaughter trying to accomplish by telling the two of them all this?
"So, you specifically told us this. Could it be that you have a solution?" Ming Lunyu decided to follow the King of Slaughter's lead.
"Hahaha, you're very clever." The King of Slaughter revealed an appreciative expression.
"To be honest, I'm unwilling to watch promising young talents like you perish for nothing. So I've decided to show you leniency and give you another choice."
"That is, you won't need to pass through Hell Road, yet you can still receive the City of Slaughter's God of Slaughter title. The price is that you must join the City of Slaughter and serve me."
Ming Lunyu understood. So he had taken a fancy to the potential of the two of them.
Perhaps it wasn't impossible...
He pondered silently.
But...
"After joining the City of Slaughter, can we leave freely?"
This was a very important question.
Ming Lunyu did not like the City of Slaughter's environment. If he were forced to remain here forever, he would be unbearably uncomfortable.
The King of Slaughter replied as if it were only natural, "Of course not. If you serve me, you must remain somewhere you can receive orders at all times."
Ming Lunyu's expression darkened.
That was not what he wanted.
However, if Hell Road was truly as dangerous as the King of Slaughter claimed, the two of them would never make it out on their own.
What should he do? What should he do!
Ming Lunyu began considering every condition he could make use of, trying to find a way out of this predicament.
Folding Fan Martial Soul...
Inverse Yin Yang...
Black and White Qi...
Contract...
Right! The contract!
Ming Lunyu's heart stirred, and joy surged within him.
That was right. He and Ma Hongjun truly could not pass through Hell Road alone, but what if there were more than just the two of them?
What if they added another helper?
For example... the King of Slaughter?
This mad idea swiftly took root and sprouted in Ming Lunyu's heart.
An unconscious instruction he had once given Ma Hongjun had made Ming Lunyu realize something: those he contracted could not resist his commands.
However, there was still one problem. Could his Martial Soul contract someone whose strength differed so greatly from his own?
But Ming Lunyu did not have much time left to think. The King of Slaughter's patience was limited.
I'll risk it! If it doesn't work, I'll agree to him and find a chance to escape later.
Ming Lunyu made his decision.
After reviewing the conditions of Inverse Yin Yang's contract, Ming Lunyu looked at the King of Slaughter and spoke calmly.
"Then, great King of Slaughter, if we are willing to serve you, would you agree to let us use our soul skills freely within the City of Slaughter?"
The King of Slaughter answered without hesitation, "I agree. As long as you join, I can grant you that authority."
It was merely the right to use soul skills. The King of Slaughter did not think much of it. After all, within the City of Slaughter's domain, no one could possibly be stronger than him.
Ming Lunyu's eyes lit up, overflowing with boundless delight.
"Hahahahaha!"
He no longer cared about keeping up appearances and burst into wild laughter.
"You... said you agreed, right?!"
"What? You..."
Before he could voice his confusion, the King of Slaughter suddenly felt chains formed from irresistible laws of heaven and earth wrapping around him.
"What is this?! Could it be you..."
The King of Slaughter was both shocked and enraged. Yet no matter how he struggled or what terrifying attacks he unleashed, he could not stop streams of Black and White Qi radiating a mysterious aura from coiling around him layer by layer.
In the end, the King of Slaughter's figure vanished completely, leaving behind only a gray cocoon.
"Brother, could it be that you..." Ma Hongjun's beautiful eyes widened as she cried out.
"That's right!" Ming Lunyu laughed wildly. "I activated Inverse Yin Yang's contract ability. The instant he said he agreed, the contract was formed."
"I never expected I could forcibly contract even someone this powerful. Just what kind of background does my Second Martial Soul have?"
Ma Hongjun said indifferently, "Who cares what background it has? It's in Brother's hands now. It's your power, and that's enough. As for everything else, we can deal with it later."
Ming Lunyu nodded. "That's true. There's no use thinking about it now."
The two stood before the giant cocoon and waited quietly.
Inside the gray cocoon.
The King of Slaughter—no, it should be called the Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat King.
It had originally parasitized a man named Tang Chen, taken over his body, and used that body to become the King of Slaughter of the City of Slaughter.
Yet it had never imagined that it would merely try to recruit some subordinates, only to be bitten back by a mere three-ring soul master using some strange ability and trapped in an unknown space.
It keenly sensed that this space was filled with a great and sacred power that was constantly transforming its body.
Worse still, the consciousness of the body's original owner—the terrifying rank ninety-nine limit Douluo, the previous Clear Sky Douluo Tang Chen—had awakened!
Filled with boundless fury at having his body seized, Tang Chen's consciousness began savagely assaulting the Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat King.
"Vile beast! Die!"
The Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat King let out a shrill howl.
"Are you insane?! We're trapped here. If we don't break free, neither of us will end well!"
But Tang Chen had already been consumed by slaughter. He paid no attention whatsoever to the Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat King's cries and relentlessly tore at its soul.
Gray Qi surged.
As if feeling that their battle was too disruptive, the Gray Qi separated a strand and wrapped around both souls before violently contracting.
Collapse, disintegration, selection, fusion...
Under the Gray Qi's influence, the two souls that had been endlessly entangled completely merged into one.
The dark gold soul and the blood-red soul fused together, forming an entirely new and pure golden-red soul. Wrapped in Gray Qi, it was placed into the body, which had already changed beyond recognition.
Then the Gray Qi paused for a moment, as though recalling something.
Only after a while did it begin flowing again, wrapping around the King of Slaughter's now petite and adorable body, constantly shaping and transforming it until it seemed satisfied and slowly dispersed.
Outside.
Ming Lunyu sensed that the contract had been fully completed. He rose from the ground, dusted himself off, and walked over to the gray cocoon.
Ma Hongjun followed curiously and watched the scene before them.
"Brother, was it like this when you contracted me too?"
"Exactly the same," Ming Lunyu replied casually.
At that moment, the gray cocoon exploded.
Ma Hongjun lowered her eyelids halfway and said speechlessly, "Exactly the same?"
Once Ming Lunyu saw clearly, he too did not know what to say.
"I... I'm not sure either..."
The figure that appeared was a petite little girl.
She was only about four foot nine, with blood-red hair reaching down to her hips. Two locks of hair had been tied into braids on either side of her head with dark gold bat-shaped hair clips.
Below that was a figure far more developed than one would expect from a little girl.
Her petite body was wrapped in a gorgeous faux-cape shirt dress. The dress was black and red, with delicate little bat patterns embroidered along the hem, making her look utterly adorable.
She wore no stockings. Her small, fair feet were tucked into dark-red strappy high-heeled sandals. All ten toenails were painted golden-red.
"Why didn't I come with clothes back then?" Ma Hongjun asked.
Ming Lunyu did not answer immediately. Instead, he circled the little girl in surprise, occasionally lifting her hand or raising her foot to inspect them carefully.
At last, amid their bewildered expressions, he reached a conclusion.
"This outfit seems to have been generated according to my preferences... When I contracted you, I didn't have those concepts yet, so nothing was generated automatically?"
After hearing Ming Lunyu say that, Ma Hongjun also gave the girl a careful look.
"That's true... Her whole outfit fits Brother's tastes." Especially the nail polish...
Ma Hongjun grumbled inwardly.
Did she really like nail polish that much? Wasn't it because someone liked it?
Ming Lunyu's face reddened, and he began coughing awkwardly.
"Ahem... Well, what's your name? What should I call you?"
The little girl, who had been watching the two curiously, immediately curved her eyes into crescents upon hearing Ming Lunyu ask about her. Happily raising a small hand like a student eager to answer Teacher's question, she said:
"I don't know either~"
"Huh?"
"Hmm?"
Ming Lunyu and Ma Hongjun looked at each other.
Wasn't the King of Slaughter acting completely out of character?
Seeing that the two ignored her, the little girl seemed to grow anxious. She came before Ming Lunyu and hopped around like a little rabbit, trying to attract his attention.
"Wait, wait... Stop jumping first."
Ming Lunyu held her down.
After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Did you lose your memories? What do you still remember?"
He had originally thought that some accident during the contract had caused the King of Slaughter to lose its memories. Yet the moment the little girl opened her mouth, Ming Lunyu realized that was not the case.
"...That's what happened. I'm a new consciousness born after the Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat King's soul and Tang Chen's soul perfectly fused. I possess most of their memories and all of their power, but I'm a new and independent consciousness. So I don't have a name yet. Can you give me one, Brother~?"
Whoosh!
Ming Lunyu felt as though an arrow had pierced his heart.
How could she be this cute?! Wasn't she supposed to be formed from the fusion of a soul beast and an old man's soul?
Ming Lunyu screamed inwardly.
Looking at the delicate little girl before him, her large golden eyes shining with expectant light, Ming Lunyu found that he could not even bring himself to think of refusing.
