As she looked at the red-brick pavement before her, the rows of streetlamps neatly lining both sides, illuminating the scarlet riverbank and making the nearby river flash with rippling arcs of light, the scene seemed like a path leading to a sacred hall. Yet caution flickered in Rin Tohsaka's green eyes.
She reached into her bag, took out her phone, and opened an email...
'Midnight. Beneath the bridge. Meet on the riverbank...'
She had received that email before the sun had set, while she was still investigating the Ley Lines and the Eighth Class Card in the underground cavern beneath Ryudoji Temple on Mount Enzo.
The email contained only those brief eleven words. It was extremely concise, yet there was no signature identifying the sender. Even the number it had been sent from was unfamiliar, proving that whoever had sent the email to Rin Tohsaka was certainly not someone she knew.
Under such circumstances, coming to the meeting alone was undoubtedly a very foolish thing to do.
If it was merely ordinary spam or a scam message, then it would not have mattered. After all, Rin Tohsaka was a mage; coming alone was more than enough.
But if the sender was some unknown mage, then it could not be said that there was no danger at all...
