River-Mixing Dragon sprang up—and died.
In the blink between a rabbit's leap and a falcon's stoop, it was over in an instant.
Captain Yang let out a breath of relief. His right hand slipped soundlessly from his sleeve as he smiled and cupped his hands.
"As expected of Master Zhou. I, Yang, will remember this life-saving favor!"
"It was my duty."
A sharp gleam flashed through Zhou Yi's eyes. Just now, he had sensed a wisp of spiritual energy emanating from Captain Yang's sleeve.
A talisman, or a Mystic Item?
Only then did the prison guards come to their senses. They hurried forward and surrounded River-Mixing Dragon, fastening several chains around him. When they checked his breathing and pulse, he was already dead beyond doubt.
Zhou Yi said, "Captain, this must have been an accident. Please do not take your anger out on anyone."
"Of course it was an accident. I trust you all."
Captain Yang was confident that every prison guard had already submitted to him. River-Mixing Dragon breaking free of his chains must have been Captain Ma's doing during the night shift, since Warden Wu had already joined them.
"Master Zhou, would you be interested in becoming a captain?"
Zhou Yi cupped his hands. "Thank you for thinking so highly of me, sir, but I've grown used to being carefree. I can't be an official."
"No matter."
Captain Yang pointed at Old Lei. "Warden Lei, are you interested?"
Caught completely off guard, Old Lei's expression shifted for a long while before he bowed. "If you have any command, sir, I would not dare refuse!"
"Good!"
Captain Yang clapped his hands. "Tonight, summon all the brothers. We'll drink at Happy Forest together."
The prison guards exchanged glances, unable to fathom Captain Yang's intentions.
Happy Forest.
