Chapter 13: Unlocking Flight—A True Superman!
Watching the figure that completely defied gravity, his powerful body seeming to have no weight at all as he simply floated in midair, both Gwen and the seasoned Captain George were stunned into silence.
Humans could not fly without external equipment. This was common knowledge, known even to a three-year-old child.
Yet at this moment, the scene before them shattered their worldview entirely.
"Who... exactly... are you?"
After a long pause, Captain George finally snapped out of it, raising his gun without hesitation and aiming it at the figure before him. Perhaps only the gun in his hand could dispel the fear of the unknown gnawing at his heart and bring him a shred of comfort.
"I suggest you put that thing down. I'm not used to being pointed at with it. Besides, that thing of yours poses no threat to me."
Peter, holding the nearly ten-ton cabin with one hand while slowly descending to the ground, spoke with a hint of coldness in his voice.
Perhaps sensing the chill in this mysterious figure's tone, Captain George this time surprisingly obeyed, lowering his gun and speaking earnestly: "Alright, I apologize to you."
"Is this the same stubborn father who would rather get himself hurt than take off his mask?"
Watching her father's actions, Gwen felt a deep sense of unfairness. If George knew what she was thinking, he would only say to her: "I may be stubborn, but I'm not stupid. Think about it—can a being like that be threatened with a crappy pistol?"
Clang!
By now, Peter had neared the ground and casually set the cabin down.
But the next moment, all the officers waiting on the ground quickly surrounded him.
Some wore expressions of utter disbelief.
Some stared at his face, covered by the Bio-force Field, filled with curiosity.
Others nervously aimed their guns at him.
"Put your guns down!"
George, stepping out of the cabin, gave the order without hesitation, making the surrounding officers lower their weapons.
"This... sir." Tilting his head up at a 45-degree angle, looking up at the figure floating in the air, George organized his words internally.
Then he slowly continued: "Are you exactly... a mutant? A superpowered being? Or an alien?"
"Or... a god!"
In truth, George had another guess in mind, but he didn't voice it directly.
"What do you think?"
Peter looked down at everyone below, including a figure trying to find a chance to sneak away, and his voice, low and full of authority, slowly rang out across the scene.
Whoosh!
The next moment, under the stunned gaze of everyone, his figure shot straight into the sky. Hundreds of meters above, a cone-shaped sonic boom cloud formed around his body.
Boom!
Two seconds later, the sound of the boom reached their ears, proving that what they had witnessed was no illusion.
"I know! He's Superman! The Superman from the comics..."
After a moment of silence at the scene, a sudden exclamation broke the stillness.
The next moment, the crowd erupted.
A comic brought to life—what could be more unbelievable than that?
"Captain, Spider-Woman is gone!"
Just as everyone was still reeling in disbelief, the officer who had been rescued by Gwen alongside Captain George suddenly came over to report.
"I know."
Captain George's gaze remained fixed on the sky where the figure had long since vanished, speaking slowly without turning his head.
"Captain, this operation yielded almost nothing, but the losses were heavy. Especially the helicopters—three were destroyed."
"Fortunately, thanks to Spider-Woman, we had no casualties, only a few injured officers. So, are we..."
The officer briefly summarized the operation's losses, then became hesitant, as if there was something he wanted to say but didn't dare.
At the same time, the other officers who had witnessed Spider-Woman saving all the survivors like a hero were now looking at Captain George with hopeful eyes.
"In that case, cancel the arrest warrant for Spider-Woman."
"Yeah! The captain is wise!"
Instantly, the officers at the scene spontaneously applauded the decision, especially the few survivors Spider-Woman had just saved.
"Alright. Also, issue a new arrest warrant. Full effort to hunt down that other guy causing trouble in the city."
George pressed his hands slowly downward, cutting off the excited crowd, then issued another new order.
"Also, regarding what just happened, all personnel present must keep it strictly confidential."
At this moment, Captain George's face was filled with solemnity.
"Alright, everyone, focus on cleaning up the scene and restore order here as quickly as possible."
After giving that final instruction, Captain George turned and walked away.
"Captain, should we send a helicopter to take you back to rest?"
Seeing the captain preparing to leave, an officer kindly offered.
"...I'll drive myself back."
Looking at the helicopter wreckage that hadn't yet been cleared, George didn't hesitate for a moment before rejecting the idea of taking another helicopter.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of meters up in the sky.
"Woo-hoo!"
A figure streaked through the air at high speed, leaving behind only an excited shout.
"The old me was no Superman at all. The current me is the real Superman!"
The next moment, the figure flying at high altitude accelerated again.
And dove straight down through the clouds below.
The intense impact from the extreme speed instantly scattered the cotton-candy-like white clouds.
A silvery-white contrail trailed behind the figure weaving rapidly through the clouds.
After leaving a bizarre pattern in the sky that lingered for a long time.
The figure suddenly burst out of the clouds and dove again.
Above the vast, boundless ocean, a figure suddenly appeared flying at extreme speed, nearly skimming the sea's surface.
The airflow driven by supersonic speed cut through the water like a sharp sword, carving a deep trench across the sea.
As spray flew, Peter suddenly spotted a massive creature beneath the surface.
Without hesitation, he plunged headfirst into the water.
Splash!
The next moment, a huge wave exploded on the sea surface hundreds of meters ahead.
A colossal whale leaped out of the sea, soaring dozens of meters into the air.
Whale: I'm taking off!
And I'm coming back down!
Plop!
Having experienced skipping a whale like a stone across the water.
Watching the massive wave burst on the sea surface, Peter's figure shot back into the sky.
Instantly breaking the sound barrier, piercing through the clouds.
Spotting a passenger plane tens of kilometers ahead, Peter accelerated again and chased straight after it.
After catching up to the plane in just a few seconds, Peter slowed down to match its speed.
Then he slowly approached the window, covered by a shade, and tapped lightly a few times.
As the shade was pulled up, a child looked out the window with confusion.
"Daddy, look, there's a Superman!"
Before his father could turn around, Peter waved at the kid inside the plane.
The next moment, he shot back into the sky, soaring upward.
Scene shift.
In the distant reaches of outer space, a figure spread their arms, facing the sun slowly rising over the horizon.
Golden light spilled over them, dreamlike and surreal!
