Chapter 27: The Four-Armed... Hulk
"What happened, Professor Connors?"
Gwen, who had just tripped him, had never seen her mentor so frantic.
"That guy stole my Regeneration Serum."
"This new serum is still an unfinished experiment. If he uses it rashly, it could cause a collapse of the human genome. It could kill him."
At that moment, Connors was practically sprawled on the floor, scrambling to gather the other vials that had rolled across the ground, explaining to Gwen without even looking up.
"Oh, and call the police. That guy's identity is a bit of a problem. I'm worried it might cause a bigger mess."
Once he had picked up all the vials and put them back in his satchel, Professor Connors hugged the bag tightly.
Then, suddenly remembering who the thief was, he spoke to Gwen with some concern.
"Heh, his identity is definitely a problem."
Actually, Peter had recognized the guy the moment he stepped out of the elevator. It was the Hulk, who had escaped the military's encirclement that very morning—Dr. Banner.
"But when did Dr. Banner get mixed up with Connors? And why did he steal his Lizardman transformation device?"
"And... this Dr. Connors doesn't seem so bad?"
Standing silently to the side, Peter felt the situation was a bit strange.
"Right, Dad. It's near the company building where I'm interning. Please send someone over quickly..."
Seeing the serious and worried look on her mentor's face, Gwen didn't hesitate and immediately called her police captain father.
"Phew, I hope this doesn't cause too much trouble."
Seeing that Gwen had called the police, Professor Connors finally breathed a sigh of relief. Only then did he notice Peter standing beside her.
He asked Gwen with some confusion, "Oh, Gwen, and who is this?"
"He's my classmate, Peter Parker. I was planning to bring him to meet you, but I didn't expect this to happen..."
Gwen's face flushed slightly as she explained, a little embarrassed.
"Hello, Peter Parker. Wait, Parker? Is your father by any chance..."
The surname Parker instantly reminded Professor Connors of a colleague he had worked with years ago on a genetic mutation project.
"Sorry, we can talk about this later. I need to go back and organize my lab now. Gwen, why don't you show your Parker friend around the company for a bit."
But he quickly realized this wasn't the time for that discussion. He needed to properly secure the serum in his arms.
Apologizing to the two of them, he quickly walked to the elevator and returned to his lab.
"I'm sorry, Peter. I didn't expect today to turn out like this."
Gwen looked at Peter, her face full of apology.
"It's okay..."
"Oh my god, what is that?"
"Help! There's a monster!"
"Run, everyone! The monster is attacking the city!"
Just as Peter was about to say it was fine, a huge commotion erupted from outside the company.
They both turned to look and saw countless people fleeing in panic.
"Sorry, Peter, I just remembered my band asked me to come to practice this afternoon. I gotta go. See you at school tomorrow..."
Seeing the chaos outside, Gwen quickly thought of an excuse. As she spoke, she was already rushing out the door, not giving Peter a chance to say a word.
"Heh, so this is what it feels like to be suddenly stood up by a superhero."
Watching Gwen sprint out of the company and then run against the crowd toward the source of the chaos, Peter felt a mix of amusement and exasperation.
"Well, this works out too..."
Let's go back a few minutes.
After being tripped by Gwen, Dr. Banner had grabbed a vial of serum in a panic and bolted out of Oscorp Tower.
Of course, Oscorp's security hadn't given up the chase.
And with Gwen's call, the nearest police had also received the alert and arrived.
Banner was just a scientist, not a good runner.
In the end, forced into a corner, he was trapped by both parties on a nearby street.
"Warning! Put your hands up and surrender immediately, or we have the right to shoot you dead."
Seeing that the criminal was white, the arriving cops didn't immediately use their American-style quick-draw to send him to the afterlife.
Instead, they kept their hands on their hips, warning Banner to give up.
"No, don't come any closer. I can't hold it in much longer."
After that burst of rapid escape, Dr. Banner's stamina was almost completely drained.
Now cornered by armed police, the "Primordial Force" inside him was on the verge of breaking free.
The skin on his face had already started to take on a greenish tint.
"What did you do? Stop right now, or we'll shoot."
As ordinary cops, they'd never seen anything like this—someone's head turning green without warning.
Without hesitation, they drew their pistols from their holsters and aimed at Banner, who was barely holding himself together.
"ROAR!"
Suddenly, as green nearly consumed his entire face, a beast-like roar erupted from his throat.
His body began to swell rapidly, green skin instantly bursting through his already tattered clothes.
Only a pair of "Big Shorts" made of some unknown material between his legs managed to barely cover his sensitive parts.
"Even though you've saved me many times, I don't want to hurt anyone else anymore. I'm sorry."
While a sliver of clear thought remained, Banner didn't hesitate to stab the stolen "Serum" he'd been holding deep into himself, injecting it into his body.
"No..."
The next moment, with a roar full of unwillingness, the last trace of Banner's sanity vanished from his eyes.
His body, once within human limits, instantly swelled several meters tall, like a ravenous "Beast."
"Requesting backup..."
Bang bang bang!
The cops, who'd never seen such a horrifying sight, called for backup while opening fire without a second thought at the beast before them.
Oww!
The bullets struck the monster's body, drawing out a chilling howl.
As if it were enduring unimaginable agony.
"The bullets actually work?"
A few cops exchanged glances, then stared at their pistols in disbelief.
Under normal circumstances, their guns should have been useless.
"No, it's not the guns—it's the thing itself."
Suddenly, one cop pointed at the still-howling monster, his face full of shock.
Now, beneath the monster's green skin, countless "Little Bugs" seemed to be writhing and scurrying wildly. Its already massive body had grown even taller.
The constantly squirming unknown entities made its green skin bulge endlessly, like a restless sea with surging waves.
Pfft pfft pfft!
Suddenly, as the bulges rose higher and higher, its green skin couldn't take it anymore and burst open.
Thick green liquid sprayed from the ruptured spots, disgusting just to look at.
Oww...
As its skin kept bursting, the monster seemed to be suffering unbearable agony, howling even more miserably.
"What... what's going on?"
All the cops stared in terror at the nightmarish scene, their legs trembling uncontrollably as they stumbled backward.
Then, the sound of bursting skin and the monster's anguished howls stopped at the same time.
"Is it dead?"
The cops stared uncertainly at the monster, whose skin was completely shredded, standing still with its head drooping, as if it were truly dead.
Pfft!
"No, it's still alive!"
Just as a cop cautiously moved closer to check, several green fingers suddenly thrust out from the top of its drooping head.
"Fuck, run!"
Seeing the horrific sight, every cop turned and fled without a second thought.
Riiip...
Suddenly, two hands tore the monster's head open from the inside.
Along with its ruined skin, like a torn rag, it was ripped clean in half from the middle.
A new monster, like a snake shedding its skin, crawled out from the torn flesh.
And what was even more shocking—this new monster had four thick, powerful arms.
