"Hey, little guy, wake up and take a look at your new home."
They had arrived at the gates of Spirit City. Radiant Feather Douluo tapped Little Yu Xi on the forehead, and the little fellow raised his head dazedly, looking as though he had just woken up.
Spirit... City?!
The city gates were carved from pure gold, bearing three large golden characters: "Spirit City."
Little Yu Xi's eyes flew wide open. He stretched out his chubby little hand, looking as if he were smiling yet also completely bewildered. To Radiant Feather Douluo, he looked utterly adorable.
Seeing the little fellow's reaction, Radiant Feather Douluo thought he was simply at a loss and reached out to tease him again.
"Little guy, let's go. Come with me to meet His Holiness the Pope. That father and son should be rather interested in you. I'll take you in to have a look."
The Pope... and his son?!
Having caught another crucial piece of information from Radiant Feather Douluo's words, Little Yu Xi steadied himself and hurriedly hid back in the swaddling cloth, burying his head so Radiant Feather Douluo would not see his expression.
I really came to... In the darkness, Little Yu Xi's thoughts raced as he kept wondering whether he had truly transmigrated.
If this was real...
Could there really be gods... who answered me? Little Yu Xi's heart pounded even harder. After thinking for a moment, he suddenly poked his little head out of the swaddling cloth and continued observing the benefactor who had rescued him from the snowfield.
Radiant Feather Douluo had grown accustomed to Little Yu Xi's gaze over the past five days. He merely assumed that a newborn child was curious about everything, having never seen the world before.
"White hair... blue eyes, wings... a greatbow."
Could he be... that legendary handsome man, the most popular figure in the Hall, Radiant Feather Douluo—the youthful-looking old man with white hair?!
Little Yu Xi was already eighty percent certain of the identity of this elder who looked young but was actually over sixty.
The remaining twenty percent depended on whether he possessed the thing he had yet to reveal: Soul Rings.
If this is real... Little Yu Xi's eyes immediately lit up.
Radiant Feather Douluo seemed to sense it as well. Seeing the smile suddenly bloom across the little fellow's face, he inexplicably found it rather warm and pleasant.
"Hey, brat, you've been staring for five days. Haven't you seen enough?" Radiant Feather Douluo smiled helplessly and tapped his forehead again. "If you didn't have that innate Sacred Aura, I would've thrown you into the orphanage Spirit Hall specifically established long ago."
"Ha... It'd be fine if you had Soul Power, but if you awakened some useless martial soul, tsk tsk... your fate might only be to become a disposable assassin."
While muttering to himself, Radiant Feather Douluo carried Little Yu Xi to the gates of Pope's Palace. When the guards saw the golden plaque at his waist, they immediately knelt respectfully.
"Greetings, Revered Elder!"
"Alright, alright. At this hour, the Pope should be holding the usual court assembly, right?" Radiant Feather Douluo waved a hand and asked.
"Reporting to Revered Elder, yes."
Radiant Feather Douluo nodded lightly and strode into Pope's Palace with the little fellow in his arms.
When the guards saw that he was carrying a baby, all of them wore astonished expressions. Once he had entered, they resumed their posts but could not help whispering among themselves.
Little Yu Xi lay against Radiant Feather Douluo's chest and followed his gaze. Within the magnificent golden hall, more than ten people dressed in red knelt upon the ground, reverently worshipping the man seated upon the gilded throne.
The man on the throne had golden hair and golden eyes. He appeared to be a little over thirty, somewhat handsome, wearing a golden crown and golden robes. Sitting there, he radiated extraordinary majesty.
"Secret Chamber Douluo?"
Little Yu Xi blurted it out, but with his vocal cords and teeth still undeveloped, all that came out were four babbling sounds.
As soon as the hall doors opened, Qian Xunji turned his gaze toward them. Seeing Radiant Feather Douluo, he had intended to rise and greet him, but then he noticed the baby in the latter's arms and waved his hand instead.
"All of you may leave. The court assembly is over."
"Yes, Your Holiness the Pope." The dozen or so red-clad people rose and departed one after another. Only after the doors had closed did Qian Xunji rise from his throne and walk down with a smile.
"Fifth Uncle, you're back."
Radiant Feather Douluo nodded and carried Little Yu Xi before Qian Xunji. "Pope, where are Little Ju and Little Gui?" he asked casually.
"I sent them out on a mission. They should be returning soon," Qian Xunji explained. Then his gaze paused on Radiant Feather Douluo, his eyes narrowing slightly before he burst into laughter. "Congratulations, Fifth Uncle, on reaching the peak of Rank 97."
"Hehe, of course. Who do you think I am?"
Qian Xunji offered more praise. Although he was His Holiness the Pope, he remained deeply respectful toward this elder who had served alongside his father for decades, treating him with the courtesy due a junior and never slighting him because of his lofty status.
"Fifth Uncle, I haven't asked yet. Who is this child?" Qian Xunji pointed at Little Yu Xi, who was staring at him with wide eyes.
Radiant Feather Douluo smiled faintly. "Try examining him with your Soul Power."
Qian Xunji did as told. A golden halo spread from his hand, scanning Little Yu Xi's body. A moment later, surprise and confusion appeared on his face as well. "This... this isn't right, is it?"
"Hey, Pope, don't tell me you really..."
"Fifth Uncle, you can't say such things carelessly. Other than Little Xue, I have no second child. And even Dong..." As if mentioning something that gave him a terrible headache, he sighed. "Forget it. Let's not mention that fool. How about we take this child to see Father?"
"Fine." Radiant Feather Douluo shrugged, then asked, "How is that girl... doing?"
"Ah, she went to Slaughter City a year ago and still hasn't returned. I don't know about Little Xue... Forget it, let's go see Father."
Little Yu Xi listened silently to their conversation, growing increasingly excited. The corners of his mouth inexplicably curled up, though the two powerhouses merely thought the child had found something amusing.
It really is Douluo Star... Slaughter City... and Little Xue. Little Yu Xi grew even more excited, and his eyes suddenly reddened.
Smack!
Radiant Feather Douluo thought he was about to cry again, so he took out a bottle of milk and directly plugged Little Yu Xi's mouth with it.
The two left the hall with Little Yu Xi and flew using Soul Power. In two and a half minutes, they arrived at another solemn golden palace, and Qian Xunji gently pushed the door open.
"Grandpa~"
Before they saw anyone, the three first heard a string of silvery laughter. Then they saw an impossibly, ridiculously adorable little golden-haired bundle run up to a golden-haired elder, cling to his knee, and act spoiled.
"Grandpa, I want to hear another story."
The golden-haired elder crouched down and gently stroked the little girl's head. "Alright, Little Xue. Grandpa will tell you another story, one from before Spirit Hall was founded..."
"She is..."
Little Yu Xi immediately stopped sucking on his milk. He stared blankly at the grandfather and granddaughter, his eyes reddening once more.
