At night, in the City Lord's Mansion study, Beshila Laville was still bent over her desk, working after a busy day.
Standing before her was a maid around her age, with long ivory-colored hair and a voluptuous figure.
"How did the investigation go?"
Beshila looked up and rubbed her brow. The maid immediately walked behind her and gently massaged her shoulders.
"A total of eleven villages and towns suffered Goblin attacks of varying scales. Nine of them avoided serious casualties thanks to the local guards, militia, city troops, and Adventurers' Guild rescue efforts. In the remaining two villages... more than half the residents have died."
Beshila drew in a deep breath, her brows tightly furrowed.
"Arrange the follow-up compensation work. Also, continue expanding the army. Do not stop the policies meant to attract adventurers from the inland regions."
"But the financial pressure..."
"If necessary, use my own money to cover it."
"Miss, your private treasury is running low as well."
"Then we still have to get through this crisis first!"
"Understood. Also, another matter came up during the investigation and statistics gathering."
"What is it?"
Beshila stopped what she was doing.
"During the battlefield cleanup in the affected areas, including the two severely damaged villages, large numbers of corpses went missing. The number of remains actually recovered is severely inconsistent with the expected figures!"
The maid's tone was exceedingly grave. Clearly, she understood that this was no small matter.
In the past, Beshila might have wondered why this was happening. But recently, Silver Creek City had happened to be facing other troubles as well...
So she immediately connected the two, drawing in a sharp breath.
