At the highest point of the City of a Thousand Towers, the rooms of the Dim Palace seemed to be forever shrouded in a hazy veil. As long as one stood within this tower and looked outside, even beneath a clear, cloudless sky, one would feel a layer of gloom drifting across the heavens, feel some indescribable "barrier" separating the districts and buildings surrounding the tower from the tower itself. Those fortunate enough to visit this tower occasionally were deeply impressed by the sight—but no one could explain the origin of that feeling of a "veil."
There were no corresponding records, no public technical explanations from the Royal Mages, and the rulers within the tower had never explained the secrets of their residence to the lower-ranking mages. The "veil" enveloping this tower was one of the oldest secrets of the Violet Kingdom. It was not particularly conspicuous, yet it always drew the interest of certain prying eyes.
Prince Nash stood before a floor-to-ceiling window decorated with bronze-colored trim, calmly gazing at the distant sky. Yet beneath the dim, hazy daylight, what was reflected in the eyes of the King of Mages was a scene slightly displaced from the current time and space. At one moment, he suddenly raised a hand and gave it a light wave. The view beyond the tower immediately shuddered unnaturally, and in the next second, a blurry shadow appeared outside the "veil," then rapidly dispersed amid a soundless wail, as though dissolving beneath the brilliant sunlight outside.
