It had to be said that the question raised by Bofar, the God of Commerce, was indeed something Gawain had been pondering ever since yesterday.
The courtyard district around Defiance Fortress had all sorts of advantages as a staging point for transporting arms to the Divine Kingdoms, but no amount of advantages could conceal the fatal flaw of relying on a single route. Leaving aside the enormous risk of piling together dangerous items powerful enough to blow even gods sky-high—something Amun had expressed grave concern over—the throughput of the portal deep within Defiance Fortress alone was an irritating bottleneck.
It was a portal left behind from the Gondor Era. After being reinforced and repaired by Cecil Magic Industrial Technicians, it was now quite stable, and there was no longer any need to constantly worry about it collapsing as they had when it was first discovered. But no matter how stable it was, it was still only a door. Portals also imposed strict limits on the scale of matter passing through them; excessive mass or overly intense energy reactions could cause the transit channel to shift or even rupture. Relying on that door to "trap-ify" more than a dozen Divine Kingdoms... was indeed highly problematic.
Of course, given current technological developments and the smooth progress in deciphering that portal, Gawain could consider opening more portals within Defiance Fortress. But that still would not solve the fundamental problems: massive energy demands, unpredictable construction timelines, and mutual interference between multiple portals. All of these would become major obstacles. And even if they solved all of them, Gawain still had to consider something else: portals were not the only thing limiting Defiance Fortress's "throughput."
The Fortress of Defiance itself, buried deep within the Dark Mountains and riddled with complex underground structures, was one hurdle.
