Looking over the communication records from the Sorin Region, Gawain raised an eyebrow and smiled at Beltira's projection in the Magic Net Terminal. "I didn't expect you to take the initiative to mention our biochemical technology to Nova."

"Was that inappropriate?" Beltira's face showed little expression, but her tone seemed somewhat uneasy. "Though I don't think it involved leaking confidential information..."

"There was nothing inappropriate about it. As long as it didn't involve classified information explicitly listed in the memorandum, there was no need to hide everything else from our extraterrestrial friends," Gawain said, shaking his head as he casually set the record file down on the desk. "I was simply surprised that you took the initiative to do it—seven hundred years ago, it wouldn't have been surprising for you to do something like this, but for you today to do it was rather unexpected."

"...Was it an immature, reckless act?" Beltira said slowly. "I didn't think too much about it at the time."

"It was a promise with little chance of being fulfilled—though neither of you regarded it as a formal 'promise,'" Gawain said casually, leaning back in his high-backed chair with a calm expression. "Our current 'technical exchange' with the Noi people is limited to the field of the Magic Tide. We remain unfamiliar with one another in other fields, and providing biochemical technical guidance to an alien race from four light-years away is itself quite difficult, let alone the fact that we still can't be certain that everyone will survive."

He paused, then suddenly changed the subject and shook his head. "But you needn't dwell on it. What I can think of, that 'witch' understands perfectly well too. And from another perspective, it's always good to have one more expectation and one more hope for the future."
