The Resistance (Part 1)

Malfurion Stormrage, the first Night Elf druid and a disciple of the demigod Cenarius, revered the ways of nature. He also possessed powers akin to those of a prophet. Long before Azshara opened the teleport portal to bring the Burning Legion into the world, Malfurion had already sensed the coming disaster through prophetic dreams.

Unfortunately, although Malfurion held great prestige among the common people, that prestige was insufficient to influence the Highborne nobles. His request for an audience with Queen Azshara was ruthlessly denied.

Unable to stop Queen Azshara's decision, Malfurion could only seek another way. He first found his beloved, Tyrande, and told her what he had foreseen. Though the Burning Legion had yet to appear at that time, Tyrande trusted Malfurion without reservation. She contacted Illidan as well, and they prepared to form a resistance force against the coming catastrophe.

At that time, Illidan happened to be a Mage under Lord Ravencrest.

Suramar was the hometown of all three of them. Unlike the capital, Azshara's Glory, Suramar was the religious and cultural center of the Night Elves. Lord Ravencrest and his Black Rook Hold Guard were stationed in the city. Perhaps because he was far removed from the extravagant noble circles of Azshara's Glory, Ravencrest was more pragmatic than the other Highborne nobles. As a lord, he also knew a little about Queen Azshara's plans, so he had long been among those troubled by them. But again, Azshara was the Queen, the one to whom all Night Elves pledged their loyalty. Until she made an obvious mistake, no one dared rise up against her.

Thus, when Illidan arrived as their sponsor with Malfurion and Tyrande, Ravencrest quickly accepted them.
