Just as Roy thought there would be no problems with this bloodline tempering, a strange pain suddenly struck.
The liquid in the Quenching Land pool was clearly scalding hot, yet Roy felt an intense chill. It was a pain that seeped into his limbs and bones, a cold so severe it hurt! He felt the muscles all over his body contracting and twitching, while the chill invaded even his bones.
"Unknown conflict detected!" the system said. "Resolving... please wait... please wait..."
Roy had no idea what was happening, but judging by the chill coursing through him, something had apparently gone wrong while he was awakening the Frost Demon bloodline!
The system kept repeating "please wait," yet the souls Roy had stored away continued to be consumed, which meant it was still working. All Roy could do was close his eyes, endure the freezing pain, and grit his teeth.
He did not know how long it took, but the chill in Roy's body gradually lessened—or perhaps it had not. His senses seemed to have grown somewhat numb from the prolonged cold.
Fortunately, the system notification finally came. "Bloodline evolution regulation complete. Due to an unknown conflict during the process, an additional 216 souls have been consumed. Please check the interface yourself."
Only then did Roy let out a breath of relief and open his eyes.
Nothing unusual seemed to have happened in the pool. The other demons soaking in the water and awakening their bloodlines were still there, completely unaffected, as though the intense chill Roy had just experienced had merely been an illusion.
What exactly had happened? Roy opened the System Interface in confusion and checked his status on the main page.
