Coulson's head was buzzing, and wave after wave of dizziness washed over him. What the hell was this supposed to be!?
He had been a perfectly respectable Senior Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and now he was a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. remnant. To top it off, the director's position had been dumped in his lap. Great—he had gone from an accomplice to rebels to the leader of the rebellion. From a senior member of an international intelligence and security agency admired by millions, he had become a key figure in an international terrorist organization despised by millions. From having the authority to execute first and report later, he now had the authority to get beaten first and then beaten some more. Killing him was out of the question. With so many S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets left to confess, did he think he could just die? So all they could do was beat him!
This was truly ridiculous. Anyway, from the stories he had heard from Melinda, not many people had suffered similar fates. Just Prince Ying of Qin, Emperor Qinzong of Song Zhao Heng, and Wanyan Chenglin. It looked like he would either be imprisoned until death or die amid chaos.
But it did not matter. Coulson might occasionally wallow in self-pity, but he was definitely not the kind of person to lie down and wait for death after suffering a setback. Once he had recovered from the tremendous upheaval of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fall, he swiftly gathered like-minded S.H.I.E.L.D. remnants and prepared to oppose Hydra, restore S.H.I.E.L.D., and rebuild its empire.
He was not doing this to prove how remarkable he was. He wanted to tell everyone that everything Nick Fury had screwed up, he could take back!
Damn it, thinking about it that way made him feel like he was getting a raw deal. Of
