No longer sewn from stiff cloth, they were made from a lightweight black metal. Their surfaces had been polished until they gleamed and reflected the light. Set into the back of each pauldron were three long, narrow ribs from some unknown creature, and at the tip of each rib sat a skull that had clearly been shrunk by magic. The bones looked weathered, as though they had been around for many years.
