The First Sea Lord was truly overwhelmed now. He had wanted to start off with a bang, yet he had somehow turned it into a colossal blunder.
The Royal Navy had once dominated the seven seas; it had practically been synonymous with power. But today, the Royal Navy's combat strength... well, best not to mention it. Even Her Majesty the Queen had told him, the First Sea Lord, that he was no longer what he used to be.
So the First Sea Lord had hoped to use this battle to display the Royal Navy's might and let the whole world know that the United Kingdom still had a navy! And if he could persuade Congress to take naval construction seriously and increase funding, that would be even better. He did not dare hope to restore its former glory, but at the very least, they could not let people forget it.

Armed soldiers crossing another nation's border counted as an invasion! Not to mention they had fired more than a dozen missiles onto someone else's territory. If they were caught, there would be nothing to say even if they were executed on the spot! Besides, whether those pilots were dead or alive was no longer important. What mattered was the diplomatic dispute this incident would cause.
This had indeed been an accident, but what if the Asgardians insisted that Earth provide an explanation and an account?
Ignore them? Asgard would not be satisfied with merely issuing statements of close concern, serious protest,
